Effective September 1, 2026 until June 30, 2027.

Qualifications

Possess a Master's degree with a focus on literacy or recognized coursework and experience.

Have a vehicle and a valid driver's license.

Be willing to use own vehicle on District business as the work connected to this assignment will take place in classrooms across the geographic area (Tumbler Ridge, Chetwynd and Dawson Creek).

Be adaptable in scheduling so as to allow for after school presentations.

Hold, or be qualified for, a valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate.

Successful K-12 teacher training and practicum or evaluation documentation.

Legally eligible to work in Canada.

Responsibilities

Travel a minimum of weekly to Chetwnd, Moberly Lake, and Tumbler Ridge.

Have three to five years of successful literacy teaching practice at the Kindergarten to Grade 3 level.

Understand and be able to apply literacy strategies that have been proven through research to have an impact.

Be committed to the District vision of all students reading and writing at grade level.

Work under the direction of the District administrator responsible for literacy.

Assist schools with reading level assessments.

Use a Response to Intervention lens to look at data, then establish the degree and type of literacy assistance needed.

Work in classes with classroom teachers to aid in the continuing development of research based literacy practices.

Plan and lead District's literacy workshops and literacy based professional learning communities.

Be able to help teachers differentiate literacy lessons to meet the needs of all learners in a class.

Connect with and guide school based Literacy Resource Teachers.

Desired Qualifications

Experience with adapting, and modifying, curriculum to meet the needs of students.

Ability to develop and implement individualized learning plans for students with diverse needs.

Strong classroom management skills.

Experience working with students who display a variety of behaviours.





Strong literacy and numeracy skills.

Willingness to work and implement school initiatives and goals.

Capacity to work independently and in collaboration with a team.

Committed to individualized and group instruction utilizing a variety of effective strategies and techniques.

Experience teaching in a multiage group setting.

Engages in fair, student focused assessment practices consistent with the BC curriculum and reporting order, and reflects on evidence of learning to guide instruction.

Benefits

Relocation Allowance: Up to $5,000 for out of district applicants (with submission of approved receipts).

Northern Travel Allowance: A great benefit at tax time! An amount of up to $4,000 of the salary paid to the employee shall be designated as a Northern Allowance Travel benefit. This allowance shall be in effect within the guidelines of Revenue Canada as they exist and are changed by Revenue Canada from year to year and shall end when the Revenue Canada program ends. Regular part time employees’ allowance will be prorated proportionate to the hours worked.

Remote and Rural Allowance: Teachers working in School District No. 59 are eligible to receive a remote and rural allowance, which is both an adjustment to the salary grid and an annual allowance of approximately $3,035 per FTE. Teachers on call (TOCs) are not eligible to receive this allowance.

Effective December 31, 2025: School District No. 59 teachers are eligible for the Canada Student Loan Forgiveness Program for up to $30,000.

Employees of School District No. 59 qualify for the Canadian Revenue Agency Residency Deduction. Learn more about the Canadian Revenue Agency Residency Deduction. If you lived in a prescribed intermediate zone (Zone B), you can claim a basic residency amount of $5.50 for each day that you lived in this zone; plus an additional residency amount of $5.50 for each day you lived in this zone if you maintained a dwelling and you are the only person claiming the basic residency amount for that period and dwelling.
