PLEASE NOTE Required to travel to other locations, such as Parliament Hill (Ottawa) Queen's Park, York Region, Simcoe and Muskoka, City of Toronto to attend community events and meetings at York campuses.
Purpose Reporting to the Director, Government and Community Relations (DGCR), the Government Relations Officer will be responsible for supporting the advancement of York University's strategic government relations strategic plan by ensuring opportunities are developed and long-term relationships are cultivated and maintained between the University and its key stakeholders which support the university's efforts to advance our institutional strategic priorities.
Education Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline such as Public Administration or Political Science. Requires a verification of degree(s), credential(s), or equivalencies from accredited institutions and/or international equivalents at the time of interview.
Experience 5 years of related experience.
Progressive experience in government relations, partner management and the development of policy material either for engagement with Government or within Government is required.
Knowledge Understanding of government protocol.
Knowledge of the structure, organization, key positions,
and workings of Governments at a Minister's Office, departmental, and constituency level.
Knowledge of government and partner relations principles.
Knowledge of federal and provincial policy development processes and government priorities.
Knowledge and understanding of lobbyist legislation and codes of conduct.
