Position Summary
In conjunction with the HSE Director, develops and maintains company policies complying with local, provincial, and federal Environmental, Health, and Safety regulations for Johnston Equipment, Liftow, and Konstant. Involved in the design and development of facilities, work areas, and work procedures while making EHS recommendations accordingly. Ensures compliance with all EHS regulations and stays abreast of any law changes that impact the organization.
Position reports to Director – Health, Safety & Environment (GN Johnston).

Projects can be large/complex in scope and generally impact individual, departmental, and divisional levels.
Maintains a general knowledge of the business and the material handling industry.
Health and Safety Compliance (Central Region‑Ontario)
Assists in identifying relevant health & safety training needs and opportunities; develops, sources, and implements Environmental, Health and Safety training as required.
Provides guidance and support to managers on safety‑related programs, policies, and procedures to ensure legislative and policy compliance.
Advises supervisory/management on Health and Safety training requirements for all employees to ensure program and legislative compliance.
Provides support and guidance to management to ensure compliance with provincial environmental legislations, including waste & hazardous waste management and emergency response/reporting protocols.
Communicates policies and procedures to all stakeholders.
Acts as a resource for Joint Health and Safety Committees and representatives within the regions to ensure legislative compliance with program policies and Occupational Health and Safety Acts and Regulations.
Administers all WCB claims and coordinates with Windley Ely and management.
Ensures ongoing compliance with industrial sector OHSA standards and local legislation.
Monitors health & safety systems and advises the HSE Director on performance; publishes statistics regarding performance against set goals.
Performs gap analysis between applicable standards.
Performs internal health & safety audits that are compliant with corporate policies, practices, and procedures.
Oversees Contractor Management program, including pre‑qualification, monitoring, and reporting activities.
Conducts safety training as required, which may be in person or virtual.
Prepares health and safety training reports as required.
Other Tasks
Promotes the well‑being of employees in the workplace.
Assists in developing health & safety improvement initiatives within all Johnston Equipment branches.
Assists management in accident/incident/illness investigations.
Promotes and advocates health and safety performance improvement across the organization.
Applies TPS methodology, using standard work format in all H&S; related activities.
Monitors and reports actual performance to target objectives on a monthly basis.
Responds to inquiries and addresses concerns of employees and managers relating to health and safety.
Analyzes workplace accident/incident history and makes recommendations to branch management and HSE Director to reduce and eliminate hazards in the workplace.
Plays a leadership role to ensure a protected work environment.
Acts as an internal EHS consultant, providing leadership, guidance, and advice on a wide range of EHS topics; maintains presence in regional operations to ensure open communication with all employees.
Communicates policies to the organization, including print and oral communication programs; identifies opportunities for additional programs and policies,
then makes recommendations. Assists with annual review of the Safety Manual and/or Environmental Manual and ensures recommendations for any required changes are properly evaluated and implemented.
Oversees the Hazard and Risk Assessment program for the organization, ensuring compliance with internal and external regulations and standards.
Ensures timely reporting of and investigations into all work‑related incidents and ensures corrective action has been identified and implemented.
Communicates the organization’s emergency plans and coordinates required drills.
Tracks and ensures closure of all corrective actions in a timely manner, coordinating with Operations, Facilities/Maintenance, other Departments, and/or outside partners as necessary.
Provides backup support for Johnston, Liftow, and/or Konstant in all areas of health and safety.
Performs other duties as assigned.
What You’ll Bring To The Table
OH&S; diploma/certificate.
3 years’ experience in a Health & Safety role.
CRSP/CRST designation is an asset.
