SD42 is looking for a qualified applicant interested in working as a Counsellor in our Secure and Caring Schools program, for a 0.8 FTE continuing position, effective September 1, 2026 .

Responsibilities

Provide individual, small-group, and classroom-based counselling to support students’ intellectual, social, emotional, and personal development.

Deliver preventative and intervention-based counselling services using developmentally appropriate, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive practices.

Support students in building self-awareness, emotional regulation, social skills, problem-solving abilities, and resiliency.

Work in an itinerant role across multiple school communities to address diverse and evolving student needs.

Collaborate with teachers, administrators, families, and school-based teams to promote student well-being and success.

Participate in the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and other student support plans.

Provide consultation to staff and families regarding student mental health, behaviour,



and social-emotional needs.

Coordinate referrals and connect students and families with district and community support services.

Support students and families during school transitions.

Contribute to student goal-setting, decision-making, and personal planning through age-appropriate activities.

Maintain confidential and accurate documentation in accordance with district policies and skilled standards.

Qualifications

A master’s degree in counselling psychology or equivalent, combined with successful elementary classroom teaching and counselling experience.

Valid BC Teaching Certificate & TQS card.

Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with other professionals including school-based teams, and the ability to work as part of a solid collaborative team.
