Location: Calgary Head Office is preferred; Other AER locations will be considered. Employment Type: Full Time – Permanent Salary Range: T3, Level 5, $102,000- $120,000 per year. The final compensation for this position will be determined based on individual factors, including education, qualifications, experience, and internal equity.
Compliance Auditor, Emissions The Opportunity The Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) is currently recruiting for an Emissions Compliance Auditor to join its talented team of professionals in the Regulatory Compliance Branch. The Emissions Compliance Auditor will work within the Production & Emissions Compliance team to conduct audits, verify compliance with regulatory requirements, and implement compliance assurance processes. This role will specialize in air emissions related regulatory requirements. Areas of focus include gas conservation, flaring, venting, fugitive emissions, data quality, and overall emissions reduction activities. This role offers immersion into a multi-disciplinary team and will provide the successful candidate with exposure to diverse specialties including sour gas plants, production reporting, and benzene emissions.
What your day-to-day will look like: Follow and support all planning and reporting activities in alignment with AER policies, procedures, the Compliance Assurance Program, and Branch Operational Plan.
Lead and conduct audits on operations within the AER’s jurisdiction which includes analyzing data, preparing audits, analyzing audit responses, and following through with the AER’s compliance assurance framework.
Ensure all audit file documentation is compiled and saved appropriately.
Contribute to the development of new audit tools and processes.
Communicate and consult with industry regarding areas of concern.
Contribute to AER initiatives related to operational needs, regulatory, and technical issues as needed.
Manage issues related to emissions data reporting systems.
What we’re looking for in you: Degree in environment, oil & gas or related field
8 years of directly related experience in auditing or related oil & gas experience
Professional Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA)



and/or Professional Association of Science & Engineering Technology (ASET) certification is an asset
Demonstrates strong organization skills by maintaining clear work documentation/tracking and prioritizing work based on risk and value.
Experience working in the upstream oil and gas sector is preferred.
Working knowledge of regulatory requirements in Directive 060, Petrinex and/or air emissions data is considered an asset.
Ability to use advanced MS Excel functions and SQL queries is an asset.
Ability to work independently and within a team.
Ability to make defensible decisions and communicate effectively.
