Overview / Responsibilities
Wood is currently seeking a Senior Environmental Skilled to join our team in Sudbury, Ontario . The successful candidate will have university degree (B.Sc. or M.Sc.) in a related Engineering or Geoscience field, and hold a license to practice in Ontario (P.Geo. or P.Eng.). The role will be management, business development and technical in the physical and contaminant hydrogeology field, due diligence environmental site assessments, environmental compliance, excess soil and site remediation. It is also a Sudbury Team Leader role, working with a local team of junior and intermediate professionals and interfacing with an Ontario-wide mine environment and ESA service group. The successful candidate will possess knowledge, training and experience associated with physical or contaminant Hydrogeology, Phased Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) and geological science. The candidate will have extensive and practical experience with hydrogeologic and hydrologic field and analysis methods for groundwater, surface water and soil sampling of mining, industrial, commercial and greenfield sites. Excess Soil Management, site remediation and Industrial Hygiene and associated technical skills as well as knowledge of applicable federal guidelines and provincial regulations is also an asset. Also required is a sufficient understanding of prevailing Ontario regulations pertaining to soil quality, waste classification, well construction, large water takings, surface water compliance regulations, mine site regulations and closure planning. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and attention to detail are essential.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following tasks:

Supervision and mentoring of junior and intermediate staff for environmental investigations and hydrogeology studies that involve the installation of boreholes and monitoring wells, soil and bedrock collection and classification,



specification and review of field testing through industry standard techniques and protocols as required.

Development of work programs to solve environmental problems related to mine sites and commercial infrastructure.

Specification of groundwater and surface water sampling and monitoring programs involving the use field instruments/equipment (downhole data loggers, low flow sampling equipment and flow through meters to measure field parameters), and industry standard laboratory analyses methods as required.

Review project data, apply industry standard analysis methods to analyze and solve problems. Synthesize solutions where necessary and develop recommendations as required.

Participate in business development, meet with clients to discuss and develop opportunities.

Collaborate with Ontario environmental professionals to execute business strategies and collaborate on multi office and multi-disciplinary projects.

Prioritize local projects and staffing, manage environmental projects and provide project management support to other staff as required.

Author and review proposals, technical briefs and deliverables for projects. Collaborate with staff and suppliers and contractors to develop competitive pricing for projects.

Foster and uphold a high standard of Health and Safety culture with all projects and staff, following Wood PLC standards and guidelines.

Skills / Qualifications

You have a bachelors or graduate University degree in geological, environmental, or water resources engineering. Alternatively, you have a bachelors or graduate degree in geoscience or geochemistry;

Have maintained a P.Eng. or P.Geo. license in good standing in the province of Ontario;

You have 10+ years of related work experience;

You have excellent analytical skills and, written and oral communication (English) skills;





You have a desire to provide excellent practical client service and a commitment to technical excellence;

You are willing to travel occasional remote northern or out of province projects;

You have a strong working knowledge and experience with the Microsoft office platform (primarily Word and Excel);

You’re team-oriented, self-motivated and safety conscience with strong problem solving skills;

You have a strong working knowledge of provincial and federal regulations that apply to environmental site compliance for groundwater, surface water soil quality, waste management and mine sites;

You have a skillset that includes analytical methods, best practices and heuristic error checking;

You have demonstrated experience working in a consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, teamwork skills, and meeting deadlines;

You have a strong commitment to safety and quality.
