Job Profile Under the general direction of the Assistant Controller, the Financial Analyst provides financial analysis, planning, and advisory services to support operational, capital, and strategic decision making within the Fire Paramedic Service. The position is responsible for complex financial modelling, budget and forecast development, performance measurement, and the analysis of financial and operational data.
As a member of the Fire Paramedic Service financial leadership team, the Financial Analyst supports the department through budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and reporting. A key component of this role is applying Lean/Six Sigma methodologies to analyze and improve workflows and support efficiency, risk mitigation, and improved service delivery across the Fire Paramedic Service.
As The Financial Analyst, You Will Be responsible for financial analysis, reporting and decision making.
Be responsible for budgeting, forecasting and capital support.
Be responsible for systems, process and control analysis, continuous improvement and performance measurement.
Supervise and performance manage direct reports.
Be responsible for liaison, corporate coordination and other duties as assigned.
Your Qualifications Include Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Qualified accounting designation in good standing (CPA) is required.
Formal Six Sigma training or similar process improvement approach is preferred.
Minimum of four years of progressively responsible experience in financial analysis, budgeting and forecasting, reporting and accounting functions.
Experience working with financial systems, spreadsheets,



and reporting tools to analyze and present financial information.
Experience supporting budget development, forecasting, or financial decision - making processes.
Experience supervising staff.
Experience in a public - sector, municipal, or large, complex organization is an asset.
Experience with SQL reporting is an asset.
Knowledge of accounting principles, budgeting practices, and financial reporting concepts.
Strong analytical skills to interpret financial and operational data and identify trends, issues, and variances with the ability to exercise judgment in analyzing information and assessing financial impacts within established frameworks.
Effective written communication skills with the ability to prepare explicit and accurate financial reports, summaries, and explanations.
Effective verbal communication skills to explain financial information to non - financial stakeholders.
Strong organizational skills to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
Proficiency with spreadsheet and financial analysis software.
Ability to work independently on assigned analyses while coordinating with management and finance staff.
Ability to work collaboratively with operational and administrative stakeholders to obtain information and clarify assumptions.
Ability to identify issues and determine when escalation or additional review.
