About The Role With discernment, wisdom, compassion and a passion for the spiritual well-being of residents, families, employees and volunteers, the Spiritual Care Practitioner promotes high quality, multi-faith, spiritual care aligned with the mission vision and values of Bethany Care Society. The Spiritual Care practitioner is responsible and accountable for the provision of assessments and interventions directed at optimizing the spiritual care to residents, families, staff and volunteers of Bethany. The Spiritual Care Practitioner models and promotes respect for diversity, accepting all people from where and who they are in the provision of culturally appropriate spiritual care and support, provides and assists with appropriate spiritual and religious practices.
What You Will Do ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Resident Centered Care Promotes spiritual well-being; plans and implements Spiritual Presence through Ministry.
Facilitate and coordinate pastoral care to meet the spiritual needs of residents in a multi-faith context
Conduct or delegate worship leadership including sacramental ministry
Conduct or delegate weekly bible study, or other faith and spiritual development programs
Facilitate opportunities for prayer, reflection, meditation and rituals for the celebration of festivals and holy days for all faiths represented and services that honor the individuals served (e.g. Time to Remember, Blessing of Hands, Christmas, Holy Week, etc.)
Conduct ongoing spiritual assessments with residents in a timely manner
Maintain visibility and ensure availability to talk to individuals and/or groups about spiritual concerns
Attend and participate in resident /family conferences and interdisciplinary meetings providing information from spiritual assessment
Use familiar and appropriate symbols, hymns and songs
Provide/facilitate client-centered compassion-based counselling and support for residents, families, employees and volunteers
2. Documentation Accurately tracks information and creates reports relating to spiritual care initiatives.
Ensure daily/monthly statistical reporting on resident care including attendance and engagement in programing and spiritual care initiatives.
Provide on-going spiritual care documentation
3. Teamwork Promote constructive, supportive relationships with the Interdisciplinary Team
Respond promptly to referrals
Role model and assist the Interdisciplinary Team to provide resident-focused services




Seek opportunities to convey the Mission, Vision and Values of BCS within denominational and inter-faith groups
Actively participate in the recruitment, development and appropriate use of spiritual care volunteers
Engage with external spiritual care providers including chaplains, faith community representatives
Initiate and implement partnerships with faith communities and other groups which foster the mission of Bethany
Be familiar with multi-faith resources
Participate in Spiritual Care Department meetings
Monitor, evaluate and continuously improve the quality of spiritual care services
Coordinate, select, orientate and evaluate other spiritual care service providers and volunteers for the sites
Participate in the education of employees and volunteers related to their roles and responsibilities in providing spiritual care
Educate employees, volunteers, residents and families about Spiritual Care and the role of the Spiritual Care Practitioner
4. Safety Contributes to a safe environment for residents, the team and self by understanding and adhering to safety guidelines and practices at all times.
5. Leadership Participate in management and interdisciplinary meetings
Support and participate in articulating and implementing goals and outcomes of Spiritual care for the organization
In collaboration with leaders, promote the integration of spiritual care into the culture of the organization
Support the mission, vision, values of Bethany and Spiritual Care Department
Participate in the business planning process to ensure implementation of Spiritual Care initiatives and priorities
Role model respect for diversity in the provision of culturally appropriate spiritual care
What You Bring QUALIFICATIONS 1. Education Master’s degree from an accredited theological school plus clinical pastoral education (CPE) – completion of two advanced Units or equivalent combination of experience and education
Formal training in working with persons with dementia or Alzheimer’s is an asset
2. Experience 5 years pastoral and administrative experience desired




Experience of work with seniors is an asset
Experience within a multi-faith environment is an asset
3. Professional registration Ordination and/or official endorsement for Pastoral Ministry within a religious denomination
Active membership with CASC
4. Additional skills a. Able to work effectively in a physically and mentally demanding environment.
b. Listening skills, basic counselling skills, group facilitation, multi-faith experience, and program development
c. Must demonstrate an acceptable level of reading, writing, and comprehension of English language skills
d. Excellent observation, communication and problem solving skills
