Join VIA Rail as a Senior Advisor for Indigenous Relations in Toronto. This permanent role emphasizes strategy implementation and community engagement across Canada.
In this role, you will report to the Vice-President, Government Relations and Indigenous Affairs. Your primary focus will be developing an action plan that builds sustainable relationships with around 80 Indigenous communities served by VIA Rail. You'll advocate for mutual advantages and support VIA Rail's commitment to reconciliation while influencing future passenger rail services.
Key Responsibilities:
• Execute VIA Rail’s Indigenous Relations plan for multiple communities
• Assess needs and strengthen ties with Indigenous peoples
• Guide leadership in strategic interactions with Indigenous groups
• Collaborate across departments to protect VIA Rail’s reputation
• Produce timely communications for Indigenous stakeholders
Requirements:
• Degree in Political Science, Communications, or equivalent
• Around 10 years' experience in government relations with Indigenous focus
• Familiarity with Indigenous treaties along VIA Rail’s routes
• Bilingual proficiency in English and French, Indigenous language a plus
• Strong crisis management and strategic thinking abilities
