Safety is the Core Value of Stelco and the individual will make Safety the #1 priority in the execution of all work activities, including monitoring contractor/vendor safety in support of work efforts. This role is an existing vacancy.Provides Leadership ToBargaining Unit Personnel, Assigned Service Groups, ContractorsKey Tasks & ResponsibilitiesAdminister the company safety program to ensure a safe work environment within the Operating facilityPromote safety by various means (safety contacts, safety tours, incident investigations and follow-up, SDS and JSA review, equipment condition, etc.) and leads by exampleEnsure adherence to all environmental control procedures and relevant codes and standardsApply technical principles and problem-solving techniques to evaluate and resolve equipment issues to maximize operating efficienciesSupervise, direct and coordinate the efforts of experienced technicians, apprentices,



co-ops and project planners to repair and maintain various mill equipment to keep the operations running at maximum efficiency with minimal interruptionUse technical knowledge and maintenance history of equipment to develop and implement preventive maintenance programsPerform administrative activities such as scheduling and paying employees, completing maintenance reports, conducting safety conversations, and compiling other reporting as necessary by the operating facilityActively participate in recruitment screening and selection of prospective new hiresEstablish performance goals and objectives with Day Manager/Area ManagerEducation/Experience/Qualifications from2+ years of supervisory experience in a heavy industrial or shop environment3-5 years welding experience is an assetUnionized leadership experience is a strong assetPrevious or current welding tickets from CWB or TSSA is an assetJob Skills and KnowledgeSound knowledge of welding maintenance practices and required skillsStrong oral and written communication skillsGood interpersonal and leadership skillsStrong problem-solving skillsAbility and desire to work in a shop floor environmentProficient in MS OfficeAn enthusiastic approach and ability to learn quickly and assume responsibilityAs a manager/supervisor of the company, qualified candidates for this role also must demonstrate the ability to manage change, communicate effectively,



and lead high-performance teams.Your work environmentFast-paced manufacturing setting for a high impact teamThe job is within a heavy industrial environment and you will be required to work within various areas of the facilitySafety is our highest priority and safety procedures and guidelines must always be adhered to.
