About the Company
We are a fast-growing event planning and production company delivering exceptional corporate events, conferences, experiential marketing activations, trade shows, and large-scale productions. Every project is unique, requiring strong financial leadership, disciplined project accounting, and accurate revenue recognition.

We are seeking an experienced Controller to lead our accounting and finance function. Reporting directly to the CFO/President, the Controller will oversee all day-to-day accounting operations while leading a team of 7 direct reports . This is a hands‑on leadership role responsible for financial reporting, project accounting, revenue recognition, month‑end close, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash flow management, and financial controls.

The ideal candidate has experience in a project-based business such as event management, construction, engineering, professional services, marketing agencies, or similar industries where project costing and revenue recognition are critical.

Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership

Lead and mentor a team of 7 direct reports across Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, Project Accounting, and General Accounting.

Provide coaching, performance management, and professional development for the accounting team.

Build scalable financial processes to support company growth.

Financial Reporting & Month-End Close

Own and manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process.





Ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial statements in accordance with ASPE or IFRS.

Review journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and financial reporting packages.

Analyze financial performance and provide insights to senior leadership.

Project Accounting & Revenue Recognition

Manage project accounting for multiple concurrent client engagements.

Monitor project budgets, job costing, profitability, and financial performance.

Ensure accurate allocation of labour, materials, subcontractor costs, and overhead.

Oversee revenue recognition in accordance with applicable accounting standards.

Work closely with Project Managers to ensure project forecasts, billings, and margins remain accurate.

Review work-in-progress (WIP), deferred revenue, and project accruals.

Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable & Payroll

Oversee all Accounts Payable functions, vendor payments, and cash disbursements.

Manage Accounts Receivable, collections, customer billing, and cash application.

Ensure timely and accurate payroll processing while maintaining compliance with all payroll legislation.

Improve cash flow through effective receivable management.

Budgeting & Financial Planning

Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and rolling forecasts.





Monitor project profitability and departmental performance.

Prepare variance analyses and recommendations for operational improvements.

Support pricing decisions through financial analysis.

Internal Controls & Compliance

Strengthen internal controls and accounting policies.

Ensure compliance with tax, payroll, HST/GST, and regulatory requirements.

Coordinate year-end audit activities and liaise with external auditors.

Maintain strong financial governance across the organization.

Process Improvement

Identify opportunities to automate accounting processes.

Improve reporting, workflows, project costing, and financial systems.

Partner with operations to improve financial visibility across projects.

Qualifications

CPA designation (required)

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business

5+ years of progressive accounting experience

3–5+ years leading an accounting team

Experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, or Senior Finance Manager

Strong experience in project accounting

Solid understanding of revenue recognition within project-based environments

Experience managing month-end close and financial reporting
Experience overseeing Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, and General Ledger

Advanced Excel skills

Experience with ERP/accounting systems

Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills

Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada
