Position Summary Under the direction of the Administrative Manager, the Student Affairs Officer will be the resource person for student affairs related activities for the School of Nursing.
Provides guidance on academic issues to facilitate the pursuit of academic goals to ensure that Nursing students fully benefit from their student experience.
Defers complex cases to faculty advisors.
Provide professional expertise and advice to students and staff on a variety of student and academic issues.
Supervise staff and evaluate progress of assignments and results.
Facilitate and develop weekly meetings to keep team abreast in the day-to-day operation of the unit.
Participates in the development, and oversees implementation of policies and new initiatives that support the strategic direction of the Student Affairs Office in the School of Nursing.
Participates on several Departmental committees, provides professional expertise to working groups and committees.
Makes recommendations on solutions when appropriate; ensures effective and effective implementation and execution in policy change and new initiatives through management of resources and continuous improvement.
Evaluates student records with regard to course and program requirements for graduation.
Coordinates the assessment of transfer credit and credit equivalency.
Analyzes, selects and recommends candidates and advises with respect to convocation awards, student awards, prized and scholarships.
Authorizes all grade changes on behalf of the department.
Responsible for approving deferred and supplemental exams, study away request, permit overrides and graduation approvals.
Review, analyse and make decisions on a variety of student affairs issues including registration issues, marks, course requirements, eligibility of credits, etc.




Review decisions regarding student academic appeals and correct where appropriate.
Write, review, update and develop publication material, including reference guides and supporting materials.
Represent the School of Nursing at Open House and various recruitment activities.
Primary liaison for convocation, awards reception and other student related events.
Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities Proven experience with Student Affairs.
Proven organizational skills and ability to prioritize and meet regular and on-going University and departmental academic deadlines.
Demonstrated ability to supervise and lead staff.
Attention to detail.
Excellent customer service and listening skills, including the ability to advise students in difficult situations.
Demonstrated sense of diplomacy and experience in dealing with highly sensitive and confidential information.
Demonstrated experience with the organization of special events.
Proven ability to work in a computerized environment using word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software, including MS Office applications, Banner SIS and Minerva, databases, HTML and website maintenance.
English and French, spoken and written.
Testing may be administered
Minimum Education and Experience Bachelor's Degree 3 Years Related Experience / Annual Salary: (MPEX Grade 04) $66,190.00 - $82,740.00 - $99,290.00
