Reporting to the Administrator, the Director of Nursing and Personal Care (DOC) provides clinical and operational leadership for all nursing and personal care services at Providence Manor. The DOC is accountable for professional nursing practice, resident care outcomes, clinical quality, and compliance with applicable long-term care legislation and standards.
Education & Experience Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) required
Master's degree in Nursing, Health Administration, Business Administration, Leadership, or related field preferred
Minimum five (5) years of progressive leadership experience in long-term care, seniors' care, or complex continuing care
Minimum three (3) years of experience in a Director of Care, Assistant Director of Care, or equivalent clinical leadership role preferred
Demonstrated experience leading interdisciplinary teams within a unionized environment
Experience managing Ministry inspections, quality improvement initiatives, accreditation activities, and regulatory compliance processes
Position Duties & Responsibilities Responsible for the highest standards of resident care and quality of life being provided to the residents through the development and maintenance of appropriate care plans, effective supervision of the performance of nursing staff, provision of the required equipment and supplies and appropriate staffing pattern, nursing services, policies and procedures
Responsible for achieving and sustaining key clinical outcomes, quality indicators, and resident satisfaction targets
Assumes responsibility for the operation of the facility in the absence of the Administrator
Leads the delivery of evidence-based nursing and personal care services aligned with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO), the Fixing Long-Term Care Act,



and organizational standards
Oversees safe medication management practices, including the administration, storage, and control of narcotics and other medications
Directs nursing and personal care operations, ensuring appropriate staffing models, skill mix, and resource allocation to meet resident needs
Directs the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of resident care plans, care approaches, treatment modalities, application of best practice, research-based evidence in care delivery systems through Comprehensive Instruments Assessment (InteRAI)
Oversees the clinical aspects of contracted services, such as, Pharmacy, Laboratory, Dental and Foot Care providers
Works collaboratively with the members of the interdisciplinary care team to enhance client-centered care
Ensures nursing and personal care services comply with applicable legislation, professional standards, organizational policies, and Ministry requirements
Leads preparation for inspections related to clinical care and nursing services in collaboration with the Administrator
Develops, implements, and evaluates nursing policies, procedures, and care standards consistent with legislative and professional requirements, while supporting organizational policy implementation
Leads clinical quality improvement, resident safety, and nursing performance initiatives and supports organizational quality and performance objectives established by the Administrator
Oversees recruitment of regulated nursing personnel working with support from Human Resources to coordinate recruitment, interviewing, hiring and orientation, as needed




Guides the career development of direct reports including developing and implementing individualized orientation and learning plans and ensuring effective learning conversations with staff members
Manages performance of direct reports including, ongoing coaching, mentoring, counseling and/or disciplinary action, involving other relevant stakeholders as appropriate (e.g. Human Resources, Director, Professional Practice, Quality & Risk Management)
Collaborates with the Administrator and Human Resources to resolve conflict and other labour relations issues, including grievance resolution, working through formal complaint/dispute resolution processes and administering the provisions of the applicable Collective Agreements
Manages portfolio expenditures within budget and submits budget reports as required
Approves operating and capital expenditures within authorized limits
Performs variance analysis, recommending actions and recovery plans as required
Follows, and ensures all staff members follow all health and safety policies, procedures and legislation
Performs and documents workplace inspections and incident investigations and corrects substandard acts or conditions
