SUMMIT, An Earth Services Company is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join the Summit Decommissioning Services (SDS) team as a Equipment Operator (Competition # 26-07-0760). This position will be assigned to our Brooks, Alberta office, with field work in various locations across Alberta. We welcome applicants from all areas.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
This role will be in a fast-paced team environment, working in a hands‑on capacity completing pipeline/facility decommissioning and pipeline maintenance projects under the direction of our field supervisory staff.
You will be supported by the entire Summit organization which consists of a dynamic team of Managers, technical administrators, business development professionals, and an in‑house IT department and many other highly experienced, skilled and educated Professionals.
JOB DUTIES:
Safely operate and maintain an Excavator, including relative implements, with proactive participation in our compulsory maintenance program
Perform structural demolition of industrial, commercial, and oil & gas facilities in accordance with engineered demolition plans.
Execute pipeline and facility decommissioning activities, including excavation, backfilling, grading, and site restoration.
Remove above ground structures, foundations, process equipment, tanks, piping, and concrete infrastructure.
Conduct selective demolition while protecting adjacent assets, utilities, and environmentally sensitive areas.
Assist with pipeline abandonment activities, including exposing pipelines,
supporting cut-and-cap operations, and backfilling excavations.
Load, sort, and manage demolition debris for recycling, disposal, or salvage in accordance with project specifications.
Perform precision excavation around buried utilities using approved excavation practices and spotter guidance.
Complete daily equipment inspections, preventive maintenance, and minor repairs while accurately documenting deficiencies.
Read and interpret site drawings, utility locates, excavation permits, and work packages.
Participate in daily hazard assessments, toolbox talks, and Job Hazard Assessments (JHAs) prior to commencing work.
Maintain compliance with company safety policies, OH&S; legislation, client requirements, and environmental regulations.
Work closely with supervisors, labourers, hydrovac crews, surveyors, and environmental personnel to safely execute work.
Maintain proper housekeeping of work areas and ensure sites remain organized throughout project execution.
Operate equipment safely in confined workspaces and around live utilities and existing infrastructure.
Assist with rigging, lifting, and material handling activities as required.
Follow all Client & Summit Decommissioning Policies, Practices, Procedures as well as legislated requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent
Minimum of 3 years experience operating an excavator including excavating in close proximity to in service pipelines
Ability to take initiative, ownership and work independently with excellent problem-solving skills
Possess exceptional understanding of safety processes/tools and hazard recognition
Ability to work outdoors in a variety of environmental conditions
Valid class 5 driver’s license and clean drivers abstract
Ground Disturbance Level 2 certifications
This can be a physically demanding role, the candidate will be required to successfully complete a functional fitness test prior to successful employment
