Overview As part of the Department of Protective Services/Dire Department, the City of Humboldt is currently seeking to fill one (1) permanent, full time Deputy Fire Chief position. The Deputy Fire Chief is a senior officer responsible for providing leadership in emergency response, administration, fire prevention, public education, inspections, and investigation. This role supports both operational and administrative functions of the Fire Department and assists other departments as needed.
In addition to emergency response, the role contributes to overall department management through policy development, regulatory compliance, reporting, budgeting, asset management, scheduling, health and safety documentation, and recruitment and retention initiatives. The Deputy Fire Chief also leads emergency preparedness and community risk reduction efforts, including fire prevention programs, public education, pre-incident planning,
emergency coordination, and collaboration with regional partners.
Qualifications Current membership in a Fire Department
Level II Fire Certification, Level I Fire Instructor Certification and Level I Building Inspector License are considered assets
5 years of supervisory experience within the fire service is considered an asset
Extensive knowledge of modern firefighting practices, emergency services, fire prevention, and fire apparatus operation
Satisfactory Criminal Record Check
Compensation This is an out-of-scope position with a salary range of $66,446 - $80,766
