As they continue to grow, we are partnering with City Centre Property Management to bring a Controller to their team in Halifax.
The Controller is a key member of the organization’s finance leadership team. Reporting to the CFO, this individual is responsible for the day-to-day accounting operations and plays a critical role in ensuring accurate financial reporting and enabling informed decision-making for senior management and ownership. Leading a small team and collaborating closely with property management and operations, the Controller will bring both technical expertise and a hands‑on approach to overseeing the full accounting cycle.
Responsibilities will include: Accounting and Reporting
Responsible for recording vendor invoices accurately and on a timely basis; will be ably assisted by the AP Accounting Assistant in this task.
Review daily general ledger transaction register to ensure accuracy of GL coding.
Schedule vendor payments as per agreed credit limits.




Provide CFO with a weekly vendor payment plan to enable cash-flow forecasting.
Responsible for recording rental charges, NSF charges, deposit refunds accurately in the accounting system; will be ably assisted by the AR Accounting Assistant in this task.
Responsible for recording rent collection, recognition of NSF, deposit refund and other charges related to tenant record accurately and in a timely manner.
Work closely with the CFO, Property Managers and Owners to ensure that all collection related activities are complete and accurate.
Responsible to ensure that all bank accounts are reconciled periodically as per agreed timelines and resulting open items are reviewed and resolved on a timely basis.
Record periodic closing and recurring journal entries accurately and close the books of accounts for the month as per agreed timelines.
Business Planning and Analysis Analyse and report periodic variance of major expense lines versus budget for properties.
Assist the CFO in reconciling common area maintenance (CAMS) actual costs versus estimates for all commercial tenants.
Assist the CFO in reviewing and analysing the monthly cash-flow.




Compliance and Risk Management Responsible to file HST returns for properties with inputs from the CFO.
Assist the CFO in successfully completing the external auditor review of the books of accounts for all properties in the portfolio.
Responsible to implement all financial policies, practices and procedures of the company.
Ensure necessary internal controls are maintained to safeguard the company’s assets and escalated internal control risks in accounts payable and accounts receivable process.
Finance Report NSF and collections to stakeholders periodically as advised by the CFO.
Assist the CFO is cash-flow tracking, planning and forecasting on a periodic basis.
The ideal candidate will possess: CPA designation with 2–5 years of post‑qualification experience in industry or audit.
Experience leading and managing small teams.
Strong hands‑on approach with the ability to manage both strategic and operational responsibilities.
Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and meet tight deadlines.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
Experience with Yardi Breeze or similar ERP systems (e.g., Sage, NetSuite).
Real estate or property management experience is considered an asset.
