MentalOptimist Psychotrauma Clinic is seeking enthusiastic, dependable, and community-minded volunteers to support our outreach and public-education initiatives across the Greater Toronto Area.

If you are interested in mental health, community engagement, education, communications, marketing, or social media, this opportunity offers practical experience while allowing you to make a meaningful contribution to your community.

Position
Community Outreach & Mental Health Ambassador — Volunteer
Location: Hybrid—remote activities and community events across the Greater Toronto Area
Time commitment: Flexible, approximately 4–8 hours per week
Role Overview
As a Community Outreach & Mental Health Ambassador, you will support MentalOptimist’s non-clinical outreach initiatives. Depending on your skills, interests, availability, and the clinic’s current needs, you may assist with community engagement, educational events, communications, social media, or partnership research.

Volunteers may be assigned to one or more areas rather than being expected to perform every responsibility listed below.

Potential Areas of Involvement
Community Outreach

Represent MentalOptimist at approved community events, wellness fairs, schools, libraries, community centres, and cultural organizations

Welcome attendees and share approved mental-health education and clinic resources

Direct interested individuals to MentalOptimist’s website, consultation request form, QR code, or designated staff member

Support approved outreach introductions and follow‑up communications

Record outreach activities without collecting confidential or sensitive health information

Educational Events
Assist with workshops, seminars, and community‑education initiatives by:

Welcoming participants and supporting registration

Assisting with event preparation, setup, and logistics

Supporting presenters with non‑clinical event needs

Distributing approved educational materials

Assisting with approved follow‑up communications





Social Media and Marketing

Assist with creating and scheduling approved social media content

Support mental‑health education and public‑awareness campaigns

Help prepare promotional materials for programs, workshops, and events

Support engagement across LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, and other approved platforms

Capture photographs or videos at authorized events only when appropriate consent procedures have been followed

Community Partnership Research

Research organizations that may align with MentalOptimist’s services and community initiatives

Identify potential outreach opportunities involving schools, community centres, cultural organizations, healthcare providers, and other local partners

Assist with approved introductory messages and basic follow‑ups

Maintain outreach calendars, contact lists, and activity records

Formal partnership decisions, negotiations, and commitments remain the responsibility of MentalOptimist’s leadership.

Content and Communications

Assist with brochures, flyers, newsletters, blog content, and outreach materials

Help prepare volunteer scripts, presentation materials, and QR‑code‑enabled resources

Review outreach materials for clarity and accessibility

Support other approved communications or project‑based activities

Qualifications
We are looking for volunteers who are:

Interested in mental health and community service

Friendly, respectful, organized, and dependable

Comfortable communicating with members of the public

Able to communicate professionally in writing and conversation

Familiar with basic digital tools or social media





Able to work independently while following clinic guidance

Comfortable receiving feedback and working collaboratively

Sensitive to confidentiality, cultural differences, and professional boundaries

Previous experience is welcome but not required. Additional language skills are considered an asset.

This is a non‑clinical volunteer position.

Volunteers do not provide psychotherapy, clinical assessments, crisis intervention, diagnoses, mental‑health advice, treatment recommendations, or referrals. They do not have unsupervised access to confidential client information.

Volunteers may not represent themselves as MentalOptimist clinicians, discuss individual cases, promise services or outcomes, negotiate independently, or make commitments on behalf of the clinic.

All volunteers are expected to follow MentalOptimist’s confidentiality, privacy, communication, and professional‑conduct requirements.
