Overview Our COMMUNTIY SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT (CSD) Department isseeking one (1) results-oriented team member who demonstrates professionalismand commitment to providing exemplary public service.
Job Posting STATUS: Non-PermanentTerm, up to 2 years (subject to continued external funding)
HOURSOF WORK: 37.5 hours per week
PAYRATE: $41.35 per hour (rate under review)
The Safer Communities program isevolving to align with emerging community trends and provincial priorities,with an increased emphasis on integrated, prevention-focused approaches toreducing risk factors associated with criminal involvement. This role reflectsa strengthened focus on mental health, substance use, and upstream prevention,supporting youth who are at-risk or involved in the justice system.
Working in partnership with theLethbridge Police Service (LPS), community agencies, and school divisions-under the direction of the Community Social Development Operations Manager, theEducator will lead the development and delivery of evidence-informed preventionstrategies. These efforts will address the root causes of criminal involvementand support youth, caregivers, and youth-serving organizations across thecommunity.
In this role, you will:
Identify key stakeholders servingyouth in our community with capacity to implement preventative strategies.
Develop curriculum and resourcesaimed at supporting families to prevent youth from entering into criminalactivities/lifestyles on topics such as mental health and substance use, high-riskonline behaviours, and risk and protective factors associated with justiceinvolvement.
Develop preventative programmingand/or best practices for youth-serving organizations.




Promote and engage SaferCommunities initiatives in our community.
Support community developmentinitiatives by collaborating with key internal and external stakeholders inproject planning, development, implementation, evaluation, and improvementwhich aims to build community resources and understanding of preventativemeasure for youth.
Research to identify, understand,and address the behavioural, social, political, economic, environmental andorganizational factors that put youth at risk of criminal behaviour andevidence-informed strategies and/or approaches to address identified priorities.
Monitor and analyse trends relatedto youth risk, including mental health, substance use, and criminal involvement.
Collect and analyse data toevaluate impact and inform program refinement.
Work collaboratively with theSafer Communities Case Managers to support case management efforts and ensurebest practices.
Qualifications & Experience:
Bachelor’sdegree in relevant disciplines with a focus on youth, public health, addictionand mental health, crime prevention, etc.
Minimum 3 years of experience inresults-oriented, high-paced culture focused on preventative promotion andeducation programming.
StandardFirst Aid certification is required.
Strong understanding of trauma-informedpractice, prevention frameworks, and risk and protective factors influencingyouth behaviour.
Experience working within multi-disciplinary orintegrated service models.
Knowledge of Alberta’s mental health andaddiction system and priorities.




Experience supporting youth involved in or atrisk of justice involvement.
Familiarity with evaluation frameworks, datacollection, and outcome measurement.
Strong communication skills; both written andverbal.
Proven ability to develop and deliver engagingcurriculum and presentations and translate research into practicalapplications.
Ability to build relationships across systemsand sectors.
Solid organizational skills and attention todetail.
Ability to work independently in field-basedenvironments while maintaining strong communication and coordination within ateam.
Additional Information:
This is a grant funded position and is subjectto the continued receipt of funding from other orders of government.
The successful applicant under considerationmust have a valid Alberta class 5 driver’s license and a vehicle withappropriate auto insurance to provide transportation for programmingparticipants.
The successful applicant under considerationwill be required to complete and pass a Police Information Check and VulnerableSector Check, Intervention Record Check, and Extended Background Checkconducted by Lethbridge Police Service.
