Position Summary

The District of West Vancouver Engineering Construction Department has an exciting chance for an Equipment Operator III position with our Roads team.

Responsibilities

- Operate a skid steer, mini‑excavator, backhoe and other equipment in a variety of tasks including the maintenance and construction of roads assets.
- Perform a variety of roads maintenance duties using the assigned equipment, which may include the usage of skid steers, mini‑excavators, backhoes, front‑end loaders, etc. with various attachments (asphalt grinder, sweeper, etc).
- Wash, clean and perform service repairs (add fluid, grease the equipment, etc.) to equipment.
- Perform daily equipment inspections and submit inspection reports.
- Provide significant manual labour assistance on various tasks where required.
- Ongoing mentoring and training.
- Perform other duties as required.

Preferred Qualifications





The preferred candidate will possess considerable experience in the operation of various equipment as applied to general roads maintenance and paving work; ability to operate equipment in congested conditions; knowledge and experience digging around other underground utilities like gas and electrical; knowledge of safe operational procedures and the precautions necessary to avoid accidents or machine damage; the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; and, mechanical aptitude along with adequate physical stamina to perform assigned duties in all types of weather.

Required Qualifications

Graduate from senior secondary school; three years of related experience in the operation of skid steers, backhoes, and excavators; and a valid BC Class 1 Driver’s Licence .

Additional Requirements

Successful candidates must provide an acceptable driver’s abstract, a police information check, and copies of relevant credentials. Applications without a driver’s abstract will not be considered for further steps.
