OFL Communications Representative The Ontario Federation of Labour (OFL) represents 54 unions and one million workers and is Canada’s largest provincial labour federation. The OFL is seeking to fill the position of Communications Representative, who will lead the organization’s membership and public communications efforts. The successful candidate will begin in September 2026, or as soon as possible, and report to the President of the OFL.

1. CORE QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate must demonstrate a deep commitment to social justice, workers’ rights, and the trade union movement, and bring 6–10 years of communications experience , ideally in a leadership role, along with:
extensive experience in a union or non-profit environment;
longstanding commitment to social justice and workers’ rights;
excellent writing and editing skills;strategic communications expertise;strong media
contacts and ability to pitch stories;experience in the trade union movement;op-ed and
speechwriting experience;high-level social media skills;media/message training
experience;ability to work independently;familiarity with Action Network, WordPress,
Adobe Suite / InDesign, and graphic design tools;
ability to manage competing priorities; and
a driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
French language skills and graphic design abilities are an asset.




The successful candidate will provide a variety of functions, including:
1. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will provide a variety of functions, including:
General Communications
Implement an integrated strategic communications plan rooted in the trade union setting
Manage proactive and reactive media strategies
Analyze communications impact
Member Relations
Working with OFL officers and staff actualize the member engagement strategy, including working closely with affiliates
Draft reports, literature, and speeches
Write, edit, and coordinate all internal/external communications (e-blasts, newsletters, posters, web content)
Media Relations
Draft advisories, releases, op-eds, and blog posts
Prepare officers for interviews and develop message boxes
Provide media training
Maintain relationships with journalists and editors
Public Relations & Digital
Oversee online, print, and broadcast advertising
Maintain OFL branding (logos, fonts, style guide)
Manage polling and focus groups
Oversee website and campaign site development
Lead social media strategy and manage accounts
Provide social media training
Photography, Video & Design




Maintain OFL photo/video archives
Coordinate photography, videography, editing, and sharing
Manage commissioned illustration and design work
Oversee external communications vendors
3. EMPLOYMENT DETAILS
Join a small and dynamic, energetic team of elected leaders, social justice advocates, and other skilled staff at the OFL.
HOURS OF WORK: Full-time, permanent position
LOCATION: North York, Toronto
START DATE: September 2026, or as soon as possible
UNIONIZED POSITION: Covered under the COPE 343 Collective Agreement
REMUNERATION: Weekly salary of $2,068.66, including Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) and Pension, generous Advantages package in accordance with the COPE Local 343 collective agreement
