Medavie Health Services West (MHSW) is responsible for the optimal operation and management of EMS Services in Central Alberta. MHSW is a not‑for‑profit organization committed to patient safety and a healthy community.

Duties and Tasks

Emergency and Response

- Maintain personal knowledge and skills, in accordance with the Alberta Occupational Competency Profile (AOCP), to deliver optimum patient care.
- Safely operate MHS - West vehicles in accordance with MHS - West Health and Safety Manual, Operational Guidelines, and all provincial and federal regulations.
- Stock and maintain vehicles in a state of readiness at all times.
- Work in hazardous environments to ensure the safety and stabilization of the patient.
- Work with outside agencies as a team in a coordinated effort on behalf of the patient.
- Document all patient care, assessments, and skills, within the patient care report in a timely and legible fashion.
- Punctual and ready to respond at the start of their shift.
- Act in a professional manner and handle conflict situations with good judgment.
- Follow the MHS - West chain of command.

Communication

- Create and maintain fully completed patient care reports. (ePCRs)
- Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with all provincial and federal regulations.
- Refer all media requests to the General Manager of MHS - West
- Report all incidents and complete written incident report forms to General Manager of MHS - West or designate.

Education

- Develop and provide continuing educational requirements as required by the Alberta College of Paramedics
- Maintain functional awareness of MHS - West Operational Guidelines, and AHS medical control guidelines.




- Participate actively in MHS - West Quality Assurance Program.
- Develop a plan for maintaining and improving self‑directed professional growth.

Physical Ability

- Must be in good physical health with no disabilities that will impair duties as a Paramedic.
- Considerable lifting and movement of heavy patients.
- Will need to extricate patients from hazardous environments.
- Will advise superintendent of injuries that will impair duties.

Public Relations

- Actively participate in public awareness and community education programs approved by MHS - West.
- Maintain professional appearance of the approved uniform and maintain hygienic and grooming standards.

Safety Hazards

- Exposure to Violent Behaviour
- Traffic Hazards
- Communicable Diseases
- Extreme Weather Conditions
- Work with present considerable hazards

Qualifications

- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Alberta Operators License class 1, 2 or 4.
- Current registration with the Alberta College of Paramedics.
- Completion of Alberta Health Services MCP’s.

License/Certification

- Certified in and maintain CPR certification.
- Current registration with the Alberta College of Paramedics.
- FARE Certificate required.

Salary: $30.74 - $38.79 Hourly as per MHSW Central Alberta Collective Agreement.

Apparatus call sign, which may be subject to change: REDD-2B130.

Hours of work: 4 on 4 off 13:30-01:30.
