Community Access Point Assistant (Temporary Position)

Duration: September 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027

Location: Atikameg | 12 hours per week (0.33 FTE)

Salary: $22.79 to $26.95 per hour

Qualifications

- A High School Diploma or equivalent
- Experience working with the public is required
- Experience with Microsoft Office suite is required
- A clean vulnerable sector criminal record check prior to commencement
- A valid Class 5 driver’s license
- A combination of education, training and experience may be considered

Assets

- Experience with teleconference, video equipment, and learning management systems (i.e. Teams, Desire to Learn (D2L), Brightspace)
- Experience working in educational environments

Nature and Scope of Work

Reporting to the Chair, Community Learning Supports & Corrections Education, is responsible for providing various services to students, staff, and the community including but not limited to course delivery, site management, student recruitment, marketing, and learning support.

Duties and Responsibilities

Client Services

- Provide reception (phone and walk‑in)
- Handle inquiries
- Provide information on College programs
- Provide information on Continuing Education & Corporate Training
- Counselling or education planning referrals
- Schedule appointments for educational planning, funding, dissemination of course/career information, and facilitation of application forms
- Contact applicants as needed and follow up on applicant inquiries
- Collect applications and fees

Retention Services

- Orient students to services and facility
- Coach students in time management and study skills




- Provide library assistance
- Provide computer assistance (e‑mail, online classes, Moodle, Internet usage, navigating the college website)
- Arrange appropriate learning environments
- Refer students to instructors or learning consultants if required

Recruitment Services

- Prepare local promotional materials
- Make presentations to local groups
- Distribute promotional materials and represent Northern Lakes College at trade shows
- Perform other recruitment activities as required
- Identify and report training needs and barriers

Distance Delivery Services

- Collect, store, proctor, and return exams
- Assist students and instructors with photocopying and scanning
- Distribute, collect, and return learning materials
- Maintain student files
- Arrange conferencing connections
- Maintain and troubleshoot learning technologies

Site Management Services

- Open and close facility and rooms
- Arrange for and set up facility as requested
- Maintain schedules and bookings for rooms, equipment, and libraries
- Assist in recording student attendance
- Maintain administrative and educational supplies and generic campus resources
- Ensure security for equipment, resources, and exams

Skills / Knowledge

- Contacts: Students, Northern Lakes College staff, General public

Successful candidate must provide High School transcripts and a clean Criminal Record Check to Human Resources prior to commencement.

This position is covered under the Collective Agreement between Northern Lakes College and the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees.
