Telecom - System Design Engineer
Pay Rate: $105.00/hour, depending on experience
Contract Length: 1 Year
Location: Burnaby, British Columbia
Raise is currently hiring a Telecom - System Design Engineer on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader. Our Client, is one of the largest electrical energy suppliers in Canada.
Note: The primary pay rate is based on the rate for an incorporated contractor who owns their own business. However, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in a T4 arrangement, where applicable.
Description The Senior Telecom Network Engineer in this role will serve as a key technical contributor in the design, engineering, and execution of telecommunications infrastructure projects. This role encompasses end-to-end design responsibilities, serving as the Professional of Record (PoR), and acting as the Owner's Engineer (OE) to review external design packages. You will lead complex telecom engineering solutions, resolve unique field challenges, ensure EGBC and the organizations compliance, and provide technical guidance to multi-disciplinary project teams.

Responsibilities System Design & Quality Management
Engineering Deliverables (PoR): Prepare, sign, and seal complex telecommunications engineering deliverables in accordance with EGBC standards and design practices.
Owner's Engineer (OE) Oversight:
Review and audit engineering designs submitted by external service providers to ensure technical compliance with standards, constructability, and safety requirements.
Technical Problem Solving: Conduct independent studies and analysis to resolve unique, highly technical design and field engineering challenges.
Peer Reviews & Standards: Conduct rigorous peer reviews of design packages for accuracy and technical integrity. Contribute to the continuous development of 's internal technical standards.
Field & Construction Support
Field Reviews & Quality Control: Provide hands-on technical assistance, conduct EGBC-mandated field reviews, attend site meetings, perform inspections, and resolve site queries (RFIs) during construction.
Project Documentation: Maintain exhaustive project records, including completion packages, as-built documentation, and regulatory compliance records.
Project & Stakeholder Management
Delivery Objectives: Support project managers in meeting safety, cost, quality, and schedule milestones by proposing scope/cost adjustments, reviewing contractor payment claims, and tracking progress.
Multidisciplinary Coordination: Coordinate design activities across multi-disciplinary engineering teams, fulfilling the functional role of Project Engineer when assigned.
Stakeholder Engagement: Communicate directly with internal and external stakeholders to define project scopes, establish basic design criteria, approve technical documentation,
and report on progress.
Mentorship & Practice Leadership
Provide day-to-day technical instruction, guidance, and coaching to junior engineers, designers, and technical support staff to build team capability.
Qualifications (8) years of progressive, comprehensive experience in telecommunications systems design and engineering.
Demonstrated, hands-on experience with IP/MPLS networks and Private LTE deployments.
Solid proficiency with EGBC Quality Management Guidelines, Continuing Education requirements, Code of Ethics, and Project and Portfolio Management (PPM) practices
Exceptional leadership, interpersonal, verbal communication, technical writing, and presentation skills. Proactive approach to task management and self-directed professional development.
Nice-to-Have Skills & Experience
Experience with legacy and specialized utility telecom infrastructure, including:
SONET / TDM transport systems
WiMAX and mobile radio systems
Teleprotection circuits and interfacing
Antennas, towers, and grounding systems design
Education and Certifications
Bachelor's or advanced degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized Canadian university (or equivalent recognized degree).
P.Eng and will be required to Provide Proof of Permit to Practice, registered with EGBC when hired
Additional Information Every contractor must supply their own Windows 11 Laptop computer for the duration of the assignment.
Every contractor must supply their own "Smart Phone". This is needed to gain access to the Organizations network.
