On this page About the position Duties The Canadian Geodetic Survey Division provides authoritative reference values, products and services available online for the integration of precise positioning and gravity measurements into national standards.

These products serve as the common foundation for all mapping, charting, navigation, boundary demarcation, crustal deformation, and other georeferencing needs in Canada.

As a senior member of a project team, the Senior Geodetic Engineer leads, plans, and oversees activities related to the development, modernization, and operation of one or more geodetic technologies, such as Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), gravity and geoid modelling, spatial reference systems, exact positioning, and control network adjustment.

The incumbent provides expert technical leadership, strategic advice, and interpretation of complex results to colleagues, clients, stakeholders, and management.

The position is responsible for the design and implementation of advanced automated processes and methodologies to maintain, enhance, and modernize the Canadian Spatial Reference System (CSRS) and its associated data products and services.

Intent of the process The intent of this process is to create a pool for anticipatory indeterminate staffing at the EN-SUR-03 group and level (full-time, permanent), in the Surveyor General Branch of Natural Resources Canada.A pool of fully or partially qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions at the EN-SUR-03 group and level within Natural Resources Canada with various tenures (determinate period or permanent).

The language requirements (English Essential, French Essential, English or French Essential and Bilingual), the method to staff a bilingual position (imperative and/or non-imperative), and linguistic profiles (BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC, CCC/CCC, etc.) may vary, as well as security requirements (Reliability Status, Secret), conditions of employment and work locations.

Conditions of employment Reliability Status (security clearance) Medical clearance in accordance with Treasury Board Occupational Health Evaluation Standards for field work (for fieldwork positions only).

Operational Requirements OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Valid driver''s license (for fieldwork positions only).

Willing to travel and conduct fieldwork for periods of up to a few weeks (for fieldwork positions only).

Willing and able to work overtime and on weekends occasionally (for fieldwork positions only).

You need (essential for the job) Your application must clearly explain how you meet the following Education: Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in geodesy, geomatics, geodetic sciences, geophysics, or other relevant specializations.

Note: The courses for the specialization must be acceptable (as determined by the hiring manager) and must have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization.

Experience: Significant* experience designing and developing geodetic and/or geophysical solutions. *Significant is defined as depth, breadth and complexity of experience.





Applied / assessed at a later date Knowledge: Knowledge of precise georeferencing concepts.

Knowledge of the methods and practices for geodetic or geophysical data analysis.

Abilities: Ability to collaborate to resolve technical and/or operational issues.

Ability to communicate effectively orally.

Ability to communicate effectively in writing.

Ability to design and implement solutions that process and combine geodetic and related data.

Ability to plan and organize major geodetic projects.

Degree, diploma, or certificate in IT technology or computer science (i.e. programming, networks, databases, web) from a recognized post-secondary institution.

Asset Experience: Experience applying least-squares estimation methods to geodetic measurements.

Experience processing precise GNSS data with scientific software (e.g.

Gamit, Gipsy, Bernese, Napeos).

Experience operating and managing geodetic networks.

Experience with geoid or geodynamic modeling.
