Halifax Public Libraries invites INTERNAL and EXTERNAL applications for the permanent, full time position of Programming and Community Engagement Lead, based out of Halifax

Central Library , supporting the Central District (Central Library and Halifax North Memorial Public Library).

This is a unionized position.

Preference will be given to internal applicants from the NSUPE Local 14 bargaining unit.

If you require an accommodation, we will confidentially address your needs. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES The Programming and Community Engagement (PACE) Lead will: Plan, develop and evaluate programs and services to meet community needs.

Lead a team of Specialists who work in the district.

Initiate, develop and maintain relationships with key contacts and community partners.

Create and monitor various budgets, spending and reporting requirements for budgets and grants Develop and implement promotion plans for programming and community work with Marketing and Communications.

Provide programs and services and participate in community engagement, modelling excellent program and service delivery for staff.

Collect performance measures, identify trends, write reports, and create action plans.

Work with other Leads to develop regional approaches, programs and services.





Act as Person in Charge in both library branches DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES? Education and Experience: Graduate Degree in Library Science, Information or another Human Services Field & two (2) years of related experience OR Bachelors Degree & four (4) years of related experience OR Two (2) years of Post-Secondary & six (6) years of related experience Required: Read and write English Excellent communication, conflict resolution and customer service skills Demonstrated leadership experience and ability to provide instruction, coaching and training Demonstrated ability to address staff performance issues Experience working with diverse and underserved communities Experience in program planning, delivery and evaluation for children and teens Understanding of best practices in community engagement Experience with partnership development Knowledge of best practices in Information and Readers Advisory services or Information and Referral services

Basic computer knowledge and skills including: Functions of a web browser

Microsoft office applications

Social media applications Intermediate technology skills including: Willingness to learn and experiment with additional tools and technologies

Willingness to support others in learning technical skills and concepts Assets: Knowledge of related community groups, organizations and services Fluency in a second language Facilitation skills TRAVEL The job will require frequent travel between our various library branches and community sites within the Halifax Regional Municipality.

Access to reliable transportation is required.
