Senior Planner (Transportation)

The Capital Planning Branch is looking for four (4) Senior Planners (Transportation) for indeterminate positions.

The positions are classified as a RÉ-06 ($94,550 to $127,698 per annum – under review).

A list of qualified people may be compiled and may be used for additional temporary or indeterminate positions.

JOB OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Transportation Planning, you will support the development and implementation of transportation and mobility plans, policies and projects that affect federal lands and assets in the National Capital Region. You will be responsible for leading and coordinating transportation planning studies and initiatives, providing strategic planning advice, and reviewing transportation-related plans, projects and proposals.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION

A degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in urban and/or land use planning, transportation planning, environmental studies, or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

CERTIFICATION/LICENCE

Member of the Ontario Professional Planners Institute or l’Ordre des urbanistes du Québec, or eligible to become a member.

EXPERIENCE





Five to eight years of experience in transportation, land use and/or urban planning in the private or public sector, including:

- Leading complex transportation planning studies and projects, including the development of related plans, policies and guidelines.
- Coordinating multi-jurisdictional transportation planning initiatives involving federal, provincial and municipal partners.
- Developing and providing strategic planning advice, recommendations, briefing materials or reports to clients, senior management and government partners.

KNOWLEDGE

- Of the theories, principles and best practices in transportation and sustainable mobility planning.
- Of planning and regulatory frameworks, including the roles of federal, provincial and municipal governments and related planning and approval processes.
- Of project management principles and practices related to complex multidisciplinary planning studies and projects.

ABILITIES

- To analyze complex planning issues, evaluate alternatives and make sound recommendations.
- To lead complex planning activities involving multiple disciplines, priorities and interests.
- To interpret and apply planning legislation, policies, guidelines and regulatory frameworks.
- To manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a complex, multi-jurisdictional environment.

ASSETS

- Membership in a recognized engineering professional association,



such as Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) or l’Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ).
- Experience in active transportation/transit planning and/or transportation modelling and/or transportation assessments.
- Knowledge of transportation planning issues affecting federal lands and assets in the National Capital Region.

WORKING CONDITIONS

- Work is performed in a hybrid office setting and involves extended periods of computer use and reviewing complex documents and information.
- Occasional pressure due to competing priorities and tight deadlines.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

- Possess or eligible to obtain Secret security clearance.
- Linguistic profile: Bilingual BBB.
- Position is in the National Capital Region. The person selected for this position must reside within a commutable distance from the workplace at 12 York Street, Ottawa, Ontario.
