About the Role:
We’re looking for a skilled Fibre Optic Splicer to join our team at Direct Bore and play a key role in delivering high-quality fibre optic installations and splicing services. As a Fibre Optic Splicer, you will be responsible for the installation, splicing, and testing of fibre optic cables, ensuring efficient and reliable connections for our clients. Your work will directly impact the success of our projects, contributing to the timely and accurate delivery of network infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Splice and test fiber optic cables in all outside plant applications – aerial, burial and underground, on both newly placed and existing cables
- Analyze test results and have the ability to troubleshoot and correct any faults or defects
- Interpret and understand placing and splicing work plans
- Read and interpret work plans or job specifications to execute all work assigned safely and in accordance to the Company Health and Safety policy
- Work outdoors in various conditions to place copper or fiber optic telecommunication cables
- Climb poles, ladders and a variety of construction equipment to assist in the installation of telecommunication cables and apparatuses
- Clean and maintain tools and equipment
- Accurately record and report project progress to the appropriate supervisory person and communicate any issues or expected delays
- Climb poles and work at heights up to and exceeding 30 feet
What We’re Looking For:
- 2-5 years of splicing experience
- Holds a valid G license
- Able to complete the necessary training for working at heights and confined space, pass the corresponding examinations and receive a client authorization number as required
- Able to lift up to 80 lbs
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Ability to interpret placing and splicing plans
- Competency in OTDR and other testing protocols
- Good communication skills with the ability to work independently or in a team
- Demonstrated commitment to Health and Safety and willing to receive applicable Health and Safety training as per Legislative and job requirements
- Experience in both Bell and Cogeco splicing preferred
