Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Herdsman/Farm Manager to oversee daily farm operations, livestock management, and maintenance of farm facilities. This vital role combines hands-on animal care with operational leadership to ensure a healthy, productive, and sustainable farm environment. The ideal candidate will bring mechanical knowledge, physical stamina for heavy lifting, and familiarity with farm machinery to support effective farm management.

Responsibilities

- Oversee the day-to-day operation of the dairy herd to ensure optimal animal health, welfare, and productivity.
- Monitor herd health and identify signs of illness, injury, or disease; administer basic treatments and work closely with veterinarians as required.
- Supervise and coordinate milking operations, ensuring milk quality standards and farm protocols are maintained.
- Develop and implement feeding programs, monitor feed intake, and manage feed inventories.
- Maintain accurate herd records, including breeding, calving, treatments, milk production, and inventory.
- Coordinate breeding and reproductive management, including heat detection and artificial insemination or working with breeding technicians.
- Assist with calving, newborn calf care, and the management of replacement heifers.
- Supervise, train, and schedule farm employees, ensuring work is completed safely and efficiently.




- Monitor and maintain dairy equipment, milking systems, barns, and livestock facilities; arrange repairs and maintenance as required.
- Ensure compliance with animal welfare, biosecurity, workplace safety, and milk quality regulations.
- Manage inventories of feed, medications, supplies, and other farm inputs.
- Coordinate with ownership to plan herd management strategies, production goals, and daily farm operations.
- Operate and maintain tractors, loaders, and other farm equipment as required.
- Perform other farm management and livestock-related duties as needed.
- Proven mechanical knowledge related to farm machinery operation and troubleshooting

Experience

- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and efficiently in various weather conditions
- Experience working with livestock or in agricultural environments preferred
- Strong understanding of herd management practices and animal welfare standards
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail in record keeping
- Physical stamina for long hours of outdoor work including bending, lifting, and standing for extended periods
- Valid driver’s license with experience operating large farm vehicles is a plus

Housing may be available. Applicants must include references with application.

Pay: $30.00-$35.00 per hour
