Exchanger Industries is currently seeking a CNC Machine Operator (ticketed or non-ticketed)

Exchanger Industries Limited is a top designer and manufacturer of world-wide custom heat transfer equipment for the global oil, natural gas, and petrochemical industries. Since our incorporation in 1961, we have grown extensively to be recognized as a world leader in thermal heat transfer technology, and one of the largest manufactures of heat exchangers in Canada.

We currently have opening on our afternoon shift (10 hour shifts X 4 days per week; 1:30pm-11:30 pm). Training will occur on the day shift and once completed the incumbent will move to their regular afternoon shift.

This is a unionized environment and all successful candidates will need to become a member of the IBB Union. The rate for JM Machinist (D1 Classification) is $43.13/hour and the rate for the Non-Ticketed Machinist (D2 classification) is $33.54/hour. Afternoon shift premium applies once working regular afternoon shift.

Scope:

Reporting to the Foreman, Machine Shop, the Machinist (no-ticket) produces machined parts by programming, setting up, and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine; maintaining quality and safety standards; keeping records; maintaining equipment and supplies.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

- Able to read and follow construction or fabrication drawings when operating a CNC machine
- Programs machines by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; providing part programs
- Able to measure parts with precision tools in order to make sure certain parts meet pre-determined quality and cosmetics standards
- Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part and sample work pieces; adhering to international standards
- Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving and cutting, including turning, facing,



knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes · Maintains equipment by completing preventative maintenance requirements; following manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs
- Documents actions by completing production and quality logs
- Ability to perform Quality Control checks on completed parts and fill out the proper paperwork to acknowledge that the part is completed according to the approved drawing
- Ability to perform sound machine operating in allotted times without impacting quality
- Detect faulty operations of equipment or defective materials and take necessary actions to correct and notify supervisors
- Rig, hoist and move material to different areas of the shop or within the worksite
- Use ladders, stands and scaffolding as necessary to complete the required job
- Ability to work at heights over 10 feet and in confined spaces
- Must meet and adhere to all company policies, procedures and quality requirements
- Must be able to understand, adhere and be accountable in following our Company Safety Policy.

Desired Skills and Experience:

- Alberta Red Seal Journeyman Machinist ticket (an asset)
- Must have knowledge of C.N.C horizontal, vertical machining, and Fanuc control knowledge
- Previous experience in a similar capacity within a heavy industrial manufacturing environment is an asset
- Positive manual dexterity required
- Analytical ability
- Capable of following instructions and the ability to work on your own with limited supervision
- Strong technical ability,



including ability to diagnose defects in materials and equipment
- A good understanding of detailed drawings (2D and 3D)
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Must be able to follow instructions
- Able to provide feedback when necessary
- Positive interaction with fellow coworkers and management for the benefit of the projects
- Follow all company machining procedures for various products and operating machines
- Must have knowledge and understanding of C.N.C. programming software and all C.N.C. milling and drilling code applications
- Must have some of the basic measuring tools required to perform this work (ex. 12” Vernier. 0-1” outside micrometer, 1”-2” outside micrometer, telescopic gages, and hammer.)
- Ability to read, write and understand spoken and written English
- Adherence to all health and safety requirements

Working Conditions:

- Heavy industrial fabrication environment, requiring the usage of PPE
- Standing and walking, sometimes crawling or kneeling for specific tasks
- Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds
- May be required to wear a respirator while machining certain products
- Use of ladders, stands and scaffolding as necessary, to inspect the required job
- Ability to work all shifts. Days, Afternoons and Midnights if required
- Union environment
