Yard Worker / Backup Machine Operator (Machinist)

Job Summary

The Yard Worker / Backup Machine Operator (Machinist), under the direction of the Warehouse Supervisor, is responsible for maintaining an organized and efficient yard and warehouse environment while providing backup support for machining operations as needed. This role includes material handling, yard organization, loading and unloading products, operating forklifts, and assisting with CNC machine setup and operation when required.

The ideal candidate is safety-conscious, dependable, mechanically inclined, and comfortable working both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Major Responsibilities

Yard & Warehouse Duties

- Organize and maintain outside yard storage areas
- Unload trucks and properly store incoming inventory and materials
- Tag, mark, and label stock items accurately and place them in designated storage locations
- Organize and control skid removal on a daily basis
- Operate forklifts, hoists, and other lifting devices safely and efficiently
- Manually load and unload materials from pallets, skids, platforms, trucks, and lifting devices
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in accordance with company policies and safety regulations
- Follow all company procedures for proper use of systems, equipment, and company property
- Complete required paperwork accurately and maintain attention to order accuracy
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions as required

Backup Machine Operator Duties

- Assist with setup and operation of CNC pipe threaders and horizontal CNC machines when required
- Follow manufacturing and processing procedures while operating machinery
- Monitor machine performance and report equipment issues or malfunctions
- Perform daily maintenance and safety checks on equipment and tools
- Ensure production outputs meet quality and safety standards
- Support production schedules and customer delivery requirements





Safety & General Responsibilities

- Follow all health and safety policies, procedures, and regulations
- Wear and properly use all required PPE and safety equipment at all times
- Maintain high standards of workmanship, productivity, and efficiency
- Resolve workplace issues and communicate concerns to supervisors
- Participate in all required safety and equipment training
- Perform other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

- Minimum 3 years of related warehouse, yard, or manufacturing experience preferred
- CNC machining experience considered an asset
- Forklift certification or experience preferred
- Comfortable working in both warehouse and outdoor environments
- Mechanically inclined with robust problem-solving skills
- Strong organizational and time management abilities
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and operational needs
- Team-oriented with strong communication and cooperation skills
- Commitment to workplace safety and quality standards
- Ability to lift and move materials safely
