Background:
Ronald McDonald House Ottawa operates independently and works closely with the greater Ronald McDonald House network (across Canada and globally). Our House can accommodate 36 families at a time. Our staff complement is 15 and we have 62 volunteers who help with operations.
Job Purpose:
The position reports to the Communications Manager and helps to coordinate and execute all aspects of organization communications, with emphasis on activities related to fundraising. He or she shares responsibility for the successful implementation of the strategic plan, as approved by the Board.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the development and execution of an annual Communications Plan.
- As directed by the Communications Manager, assist with the design, development and execution for all communications platforms (social media, fundraising materials, in-house screens, web, radio, video, events, presentations, print, newsletters), producing materials that increase public awareness and donor support.
- Provide communications and other support to the fundraising team for all events and other fundraising activities. This includes promotional and recognition materials.
- Provide communications support to Major Gifts and Planned Giving, as needed.
- Support and attend 3 party fundraising events as a Ronald McDonald House Ottawa ambassador.
- Assist in coordinating in-House community-sponsored holiday events and special celebrations.
- Assist in developing and sharing compelling stories that highlight the impact of Ronald McDonald House Ottawa,
approaching sensitive and complex subject matter with discretion, empathy, and compassion.
- Create and upload the content for our signature event online auctions.
- Assist to develop donor stewardship reports that demonstrate the need, impact and value of community investment. This includes the National Partnerships Program of Ronald McDonald House Canada.
- Assist in evaluating communications effectiveness through regular tracking and reporting of key metrics.
- Support media requests and outreach, preparing staff and Board members for opportunities.
- Work cooperatively and effectively with members of the staff and volunteer teams to advance the mission in a collaborative, integrated manner.

Qualifications:
Post-secondary degree or diploma in Communications, or related field.
- Excellent relationship-building, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent writing and problem-solving skills.
- Advanced knowledge of digital and social media strategies, trends, best practices and tactics.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic and time-sensitive workplace.
- Dependable, flexible, and resourceful with excellent team and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (including PowerPoint, Excel and Word) is an asset.
- Proficient in design, with Canva, and programs like inDesign and PhotoShop. Proficient in WordPress.
- Candidates must be based in Ottawa or the surrounding area and able to work on-site as required.
- A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle are required.
- Hours are 9 am-5 pm, however, at times, available to work a variety of shifts, including mornings, evenings, and/or weekends.
- Knowledge or experience of health and social services are an asset.
- Bilingualism is an asset.
- Pre-employment Criminal Records Check and Child Abuse Registry Check are required.
Pay: From $48,000.00 per year
