We are seeking an experienced and innovative Lead Mechanical Designer to spearhead the mechanical design and development of custom automation machinery and robotic systems. In this role, you will lead the mechanical engineering team in a multi-disciplinary environment from initial concept through detailed design, prototyping, and final commissioning.
You will play a pivotal role in delivering high-speed, high-precision, and reliable automated solutions for our clients in industries such as manufacturing, packaging, and automotive.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of mechanical engineers and designers, establishing best practices, standardizing design methodologies, and driving innovation across all projects.
- Concept & Architecture: Translate client requirements and technical specifications into robust mechanical concepts, system layouts, and complete machine architectures.
- Detailed Design & Engineering: Design complex automation systems, mechanisms, custom machine components, structural frames, and pneumatic/hydraulic circuits using Solid Works (or relevant CAD software).
- Analysis & Validation: Perform structural, thermal, and kinematic analyses (FEA/hand calculations) to ensure machine reliability, safety, and compliance with industry standards (e.g., OSHA, CE, ISO).
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with electrical engineers, software/controls developers, project managers,
and the manufacturing/assembly floor to ensure seamless integration and timely project delivery.
- Vendor Management: Source standard automation components (actuators, linear guides, gearboxes, sensors), evaluate supplier capabilities, and coordinate component procurement.
- Testing & Commissioning: Support prototype assembly, system debugging, factory acceptance testing (FAT), and site acceptance testing (SAT) to ensure performance meets or exceeds specifications.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical discipline.
- Experience:
- 8+ years of hands-on experience in machine design, specifically within the custom automation, robotics, or special-purpose machinery industry.
- Demonstrated experience leading engineering teams or managing technical projects from concept to completion.
- Technical Expertise:
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software especially Solid Works, including PDM/PLM environments.
- Deep understanding of machine elements, servomotors, pneumatics, kinematics, and precision mechanics.
- Experience with Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).
- Soft Skills: Exceptional problem-solving abilities, strong verbal and written communication skills, and a cooperative, results-driven mindset.
