Qualifications

MINIMUM FORMAL EDUCATION/TRAINING:

Completion of a certificate program in a related health or technical field.

Licensed Practical Nurse or other nursing training required.

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum 1 year directly related experience, preferably in a hospital/medical setting.

An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of medical terminology and equipment used in nursing required.
Experience using and maintaining nursing care equipment required, including ability to troubleshoot malfunction and perform minor repairs required.
Computer skills using Microsoft Office Suite of programs and Apple computers required.
Technical background and ability to setup, operate, troubleshoot equipment (AV, IT, and simulation technology) preferred.
Must have highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, and organization abilities.
Excellent command of the English language - verbal and written - required.
Must have a mature attitude with attention to detail and ability to complete assignments in the midst of distractions.
Must be able to work independently as well as in a team.
Moderate to heavy lifting required - maximum weight approximately 80 lbs.
Ability to learn new technologies quickly and easily is required.
Ability to organize and maintain accurate records is required.

Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.

Key responsibilities

Preparation of Mannequins & CoN Simulation Labs

receives thorough training on each type of high and mid fidelity mannequin, and VR hardware and software, including setup, programming, troubleshooting, changing parts, and terminal clean (terminal clean is listed under Part C 'Cleaning')
programs the mannequins according to the provided scenarios
maintains an ongoing supply audit, organizes,



stocks and orders supplies and equipment as needed in all Simulation Labs

plans, develops, and implements simulation staff - simulation operator onboarding (demonstrates equipment operations and procedures) as required, and provides ongoing support

serves as a resource for the Simulation Operators relating to required supplies and mannequin and VR function

liaises with IT and AV services at UofM to ensure internet connection and live-feed recording is working in all simulation rooms
sets up bedside equipment and patient units in the Skills/Simulation Labs, e.g., intravenous and oxygen administration, catheterization, and nasogastric intubation, as needed
fabricates and adapts medical and teaching equipment to simulate real life scenarios per instructors' direction
operates and maintains specialized medical/nursing equipment that requires theoretical and practical knowledge

keep up to date with safety policies (e.g., disposal of sharps), lab equipment techniques, and equipment changes

participates in regular meetings with Simulation staff to discuss set up, techniques and modifications of simulation cases
checks the accuracy of supply/equipment shipments, and unpacks, stocks, and checks for damage and communicates any concerns with vendor
updates asset inventory and ensures equipment have asset tags

arranges for disposal of equipment, ensuring that Asset Inventory Disposal forms are completed and updates asset database

liaises with Director re lab preparation for special bookings (eg. Remediation, Tours, Photos)

manages garbage (non-medical waste) and used supplies (ie. IV tubing, etc) in collaboration with Skills Lab tech and Caretaking Services
participates in technical training as necessary; attends sessions/webinars to stay current with simulation technology.
provides coverage during vacation periods and assists other staff during peak periods and absences.
serves as simulation operator (SO) by running scenarios when a SO vacancy presents

creates creative ideas, evaluates new equipment, and identifies opportunities for technology improvement and integration into the College of Nursing simulation program.

ensures faculty, staff, and student compliance with lab policies, procedures, and safety precautions

resolves technical challenges/problems with systems and equipment through searches and referencing of technical manuals,



equipment digital resources, and/or consultation with supplier technical support staff
completes equipment assembly, minor repairs, and/or adjustments within parameters of equipment warranties and conducts preventive/routine maintenance processes in accordance with supplier maintenance schedule and records all maintenance conducted
prepares the VR labs ensuring equipment is powered on and functioning for daily simulation activities
completes end of day tasks related to VR lab equipment
provides technical support to faculty, staff and students in the VR labs - VR hardware and software
maintains inventory of equipment and supplies at an adequate level, collaborating with the Skills lab Technician, Nursing, Skills and Simulation Coordinator, and Director, Skills and Simulation Centres as needed or when ordering needs to occur
recommends purchase of equipment based on changing simulation scenarios
empties confidential waste into the main 3rd or 4th floor receptacle
maintains a current copy of all applicable policy and procedure manuals/drug monographs in each Sim Lab
maintains supply of linen for the simulation labs, coordinating supply and dirty linen pickup with Skills Lab Technician

provides direct input and assists in creating and maintaining a simulation manual

Cleaning

cleans labs including dusting and washing, excluding floors, as needed
daily upkeep of Simulation lab facilities, maintaining an acceptable level of cleanliness deep cleans and terminal cleaning of mannequins and other equipment used in simulation at the term end

other duties as assigned
