Reporting to the Engineering Manager, this role is responsible for supporting CNC machining operations through machine setup, troubleshooting, process improvement, tooling optimization, and operator support. The CNC Machinist / CNC Technician works closely with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Quality, and Toolroom to improve machine uptime, reduce scrap, standardize processes, and support safe, efficient, and high-quality production.Duties and ResponsibilitiesSet up CNC machines, including CNC lathes, for production runs, trials, changeovers, and new product launches.Install, remove, and adjust chucks, jaws, fixtures, tooling, inserts, holders, and other machine components as required.Open, inspect, troubleshoot, and support repairs related to drawbars, chuck systems, clamping systems, hydraulic actuation, and other CNC lathe mechanisms.Troubleshoot machine and process issues including part quality concerns, tool wear, vibration, chatter, cycle interruptions, alarms, hydraulic issues, clamping concerns, and machine performance problems.Work with Maintenance on issues involving hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical controls, mechanical failures, lubrication,
coolant systems, and machine safety systems.Participate in time studies, cycle‑time analysis, tool‑life studies, insert usage optimization, and fixturing improvements.Ensure machines are set up safely, accurately, and according to approved process standards.Support continuous improvement activities focused on safety, quality, delivery, productivity, uptime, scrap reduction, and cost improvement.Ensure CNC processes meet required quality standards, specifications, control plans, work instructions, and standard operating procedures.Support the development and validation of CNC programs, setup sheets, tooling lists, work instructions, and process standards.Support daily production needs by responding to machining issues, downtime, quality concerns, tooling problems, and process interruptions.Communicate effectively with Production Leaders, Operators, Maintenance, Engineering, Quality, and Toolroom to ensure quick and effective issue resolution.Perform other duties as assigned.Qualifications EducationRelevant technical diploma, trade certification, apprenticeship, or equivalent CNC machining experience preferred.Experience10+ years of CNC machining experience preferred.Strong experience setting up, troubleshooting,
and improving CNC machines, including CNC lathes.Experience with chucks, jaws, fixtures, tooling, inserts, holders, drawbars, clamping systems, and hydraulic actuation.Experience troubleshooting CNC programs, machine alarms, part quality issues, tooling concerns, cycle interruptions, vibration, chatter, and machine performance problems.Experience working independently and in a team-based manufacturing environment.Skills, Certifications, AbilitiesStrong knowledge of CNC machining, machine setup, tooling, fixturing, and process troubleshooting.Ability to support tooling cost reduction, insert optimization, cycle‑time improvement, and equipment installation activities.Basic understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical controls, lubrication, coolant systems, and machine safety systems.Ability to support machining-focused continuous improvement initiatives.Robust problem‑solving skills with the ability to identify root cause and implement corrective actions.Ability to train, coach, and support CNC Operators.Ability to set priorities based on production urgency, safety, quality, and downtime impact.Strong communication skills and ability to work with Production, Maintenance, Engineering, Quality, Toolroom, and site leadership.Strong analytical, technical, and critical‑thinking skills.BenefitsDental careExtended Health CareDPSP, RRSP with employer matchingCompany paid uniformsMolded hearing protectionCompany subsidized safety boot and safety glasses programsEmployee Assistance ProgramVision CareOn‑Site Parking#J-18808-Ljbffr
