Position Overview
Continuing Care Assistant – Cedarstone Enhanced Care, Truro, Nova Scotia.
Responsibilities
- Assists residents with hygiene and daily living activities, such as bathing, dressing, oral care, skin care, meals, and mobilizing according to the work assignment
- Assists with residents’ special needs, e.g. eye care, colostomy, and catheter care
- Assists in restorative care such as walking and range‑of‑motion exercises
- Provides mealtime assistance when required
- Provides snacks, morning and afternoon fluid passes and night lunches, while monitoring intake
- Documents according to facility policy, including Daily Resident Care Records, resident progress notes, medication incident reports, servery documentation and audits, and incident reports
- Communicates and reports pertinent and relevant information and observations to the Supervisor
- Collaborates with residents and other interdisciplinary team members to develop individualized Resident Care Plans
- Assists in the planning and implementation of resident leisure activities daily
- Assists with light housekeeping duties
- Performs delegated nursing acts according to company policy and scope of practice
- Communicates and reports relevant information regarding resident care or safety to Supervisor
- Additional duties as assigned or required
Qualifications
- Completion of Continuing Care Assistant program or equivalency according to the CCA Entry to Practice Policy
- Registered in Nova Scotia’s CCA registry as per the Continuing Care Assistants Registry Act
- Valid CPR/First Aid certification
- Clear Criminal Record Check and, where applicable,
Vulnerable Sector Check prior to appointment
- Ability to work a adaptable schedule of hours and shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays
- Completed Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care course considered an asset
- Knowledge of infection prevention and control practices
- Knowledge of personal care principles, including bathing and oral hygiene
- Ability to utilize technology (e.g., Electronic Health Care Records)
- Completion of the Back in Form Lift & Transfer Program considered an asset
- Bilingualism in French/English considered an asset
- Previous experience with elderly residents in long‑term care or a senior living environment considered an asset
- Passion for the healthcare sector and ensuring seniors have access to quality accommodations, services, and care
