Position Details

Position Summary
Responsible for maintaining assigned patient or non‑patient care area of the Hospital in a clean and sanitary condition in accordance with established cleaning protocols and infection control guidelines. Responsible for cleaning project work, garbage collection, furniture moving and room set‑up as required.
Requirements
- Demonstrated ability to read, understand and follow written instructions; to perform basic arithmetic calculations to determine appropriate proportions for mixing cleaning products and solutions; and the ability to prepare routine written reports normally acquired through the completion of a secondary school graduation diploma and a minimum of 1 (one) year experience or equivalent.
- Ability to relate in a tactful and sensitive manner with staff, patients, volunteers and visitors.
- Preference will be given to those individuals who have had related cleaning/housekeeping experience and have successfully worked as a member of a workplace team.
- Ability to operate and use cleaning equipment such as Autoscrubber, scrubber, vacuum, floor polishers, steam cleaner.
- Work requires demonstrated time management and organizational skills to complete assigned tasks and carry out work routines with limited direct supervision.
- Essential duties of the position require prolonged periods of walking, standing, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling and lifting (to 50 pounds), climbing, bending and reaching.
- Work requires knowledge of cleaning products, methods and techniques.
- Ability to work independently and/or as a member of a team.
- Flexibility to modify routines as required to manage changing priorities.
- Ability to successfully complete WHIMIS, product and equipment handling safety programs as a condition of employment.
- Wear protective aids when required by Health and Safety to perform the job.
- Responsible for furniture moving, room set‑up if required, and the collection of garbage, waste and soiled linen.
- Participate in cycle cleaning project work such as window washing, floor stripping, etc.
- Positive attendance and availability.
