At VIA Rail, we seek a skilled Heavy Equipment Mechanic to ensure our locomotives are protected and reliable. You will conduct inspections and repairs while meeting Transport Canada’s stringent safety standards. Ideal candidates will have vocational training in mechanics and hands-on experience with diesel or internal combustion engines.
Key Responsibilities:
• Conduct preventive maintenance on locomotives
• Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues
• Follow technical manuals during repairs
• Ensure compliance with rail safety regulations
• Oversee all maintenance tasks for safe operations
Requirements:
• Diploma in heavy duty or diesel mechanics
• Proven experience with diesel engines
• Certifications in heavy rail repair preferred
• Familiarity with pneumatic and hydraulic systems
• Journeyperson or Red Seal certification is an asset
