Senior Geotechnical Dam Safety Engineer
Location: Calgary, AB. This role supports dam engineering and traditional geotechnical projects, including dam safety management, dam stability evaluations, investigation and instrumentation programs, design and construction monitoring, and mine site reclamation.
Your Role
- Project management of small to medium multidisciplinary projects, including budget, schedule, and quality control.
- Proposal and project report writing and review.
- Evaluating geologic conditions and geotechnical characteristics for assessment and design of shallow and deep foundations, retaining structures, and earth structures.
- Planning and supervising geotechnical investigations.
- Conducting dam safety reviews and completing remediation designs.
- Conducting or reviewing slope stability and embankment assessments and completing designs.
- Conducting seismic assessments.
- Analyzing field data and preparing detailed engineering reports and recommendations.
- Communicating with clients, sub‑consultants, and internal stakeholders.
- Supervising and reviewing construction monitoring activities for various projects.
- Periodic travel, including overnight stays, to project sites to oversee field investigations, construction QA/QC activities, audits, or other activities required.
- Collaborating as a team member and mentoring junior staff.
- Conducting activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
- Pursuing continuous professional development and maintaining a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
- Working in a safe manner at all times and reporting all health and safety incidents and concerns.
- Additional duties as required.
Qualifications
- Minimum undergraduate degree in Civil, Geotechnical, Geological Engineering, or similar.
- 10–20 years of experience.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written).
- Knowledge of AutoCAD, GeoStudio 2007 Products, and MS Office.
- Good time management skills, the ability to work with minimal supervision, and the ability to contribute to the project as a team player.
- Travel will be required.
- Must be physically capable of performing the required field duties.
- Must possess a valid BC Class 5 driver’s license (or equivalent).
- Eligible for registration as an EGBC and APEGA Professional Engineer.
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada without sponsorship.
