Overview

We are currently looking for ASL Interpreters for a variety of academic disciplines. Candidates will be expected to attend in person classes at university/colleges in Mississauga and surrounding regions. These service providers help students overcome barriers in class to succeed!

Responsibilities

- Provide interpreting and transliteration services to deaf and hard-of-hearing students, faculty, and staff in academic and non-academic settings, including classrooms, meetings, events, and activities, as requested by the university or college
- Follow ethical standards of the profession, maintain confidentiality, and adhere to the university or college's policies and procedures
- Maintain accurate and timely records of interpreting services provided, including timesheets, invoices, and other necessary documentation
- Attend required meetings and trainings, as specified by the university or college
- Maintain career development by staying current with new developments and advancements in the field of ASL interpretation

Requirements

- An active member of the Canadian Association of Sign Language Interpreters (CASLI)
- Minimum 2 year post-secondary diploma/degree from an accredited program
- Ability to match the diverse language use of consumers
- Experience with ASL Interpretation in an academic environment
- Sensitivity to the needs of people with disabilities
- Ability to analyze and process information quickly
- Able to work independently—being on time, dependable and able to meet deadlines





We require a minimum commitment of one academic semester. Assignments vary depending on the student's schedules and typically take place between 8am - 9pm, Monday to Saturday.
