We are currently staffing up for an elite, high-profile prestige streaming series, and yes—it is Marvel ! We are looking for exceptional Background Painters and Concept Artists who can help us drive the artistic quality, aesthetic depth, and visual vision for this highly anticipated show.

As a Background Painter or Concept Artist at Stellar, you will create finished environments that combine rich painterly rendering with a strong, graphic storytelling sensibility. Working closely from approved layouts, design direction, and production references, you will bring each fictional location to life through thoughtful composition, evocative color palettes, dramatic lighting, rich atmosphere, distinct shape language, and meticulous attention to detail.

As a Background Painter and Concept Artist at Stellar,



your day-to-day work will bridge creative visual development, precise execution, and cross-departmental coordination. Success in this role is defined by three core pillars:

1. Artistic Vision & Background Painting

- High-Quality Execution: Create high-quality, digitally painted backgrounds that faithfully match the approved artistic style, color script, and overall visual language of the production.
- Painterly & Graphic Balance: Successfully balance painterly rendering techniques with clean graphic shapes, strong silhouettes, and easily readable compositions that guide the viewer’s eye.
- Technical Artistry: Apply a deep, intuitive understanding of color theory, lighting, tonal value structure, atmosphere, perspective, material textures, and spatial depth.
- Production Delivery: Work accurately from approved layouts, visual references, and provided design materials to produce polished, production-ready backgrounds.
- Hierarchy & Consistency: Maintain appropriate levels of detail and visual hierarchy so that background environments seamlessly support—rather than compete with—the characters and action. Match established locations, source backgrounds, and key art while preserving absolute stylistic consistency across sequences.

2. Collaboration & Technical Delivery

- Cross-Functional Partnership: Work hand-in-hand with the Production Designer, Background Lead, Layout team, and broader production crew to deliver environments that satisfy both the creative and technical parameters of the pipeline.
- Solutions-Focused Attitude: Address creative notes and revisions with a practical, solutions-focused mindset, communicating progress, questions, and concerns clearly and in a timely manner.
- Versatility: Adapt fluidly between different locations, demanding lighting scenarios, and shifting visual requirements while upholding the established style and narrative continuity of the show.
- File Organization & Pipeline Standards: Maintain clean, clearly named, and impeccably organized Adobe Photoshop files and layer structures. Prepare artwork correctly for review, revision, compositing, and downstream production needs while strictly following studio naming conventions and workflows.
- Deadline Management: Effectively manage multiple assignments across various locations and sequences while maintaining uncompromising quality, consistency, and strict production deadlines.

Core Must-Haves

- Portfolio Excellence: A robust, visually striking portfolio featuring digitally painted environments, with a heavy emphasis on painterly and graphic background work, composition, color theory, lighting, atmosphere, and visual storytelling.
- Software Proficiency: High, demonstrable proficiency in Adobe Photoshop , including disciplined file organization, clear layer naming, and production-ready layer architectures.
- Core Artistic Skills: A deep, working understanding of silhouettes, shape language, value structure, perspective, spatial depth, and the strategic use of detail to support visual readability and focus.
- Adaptability & Resilience: The ability to remain calm, creative, and focused in a fast-paced episodic television production schedule. Proven capability to work within an established visual language and maintain continuity across recurring locations, sequences, and team-oriented multi-artist workflows.
- Legal Eligibility: Must be legally eligible to work in British Columbia, Canada. (Priority will be given to BC residents, Canadian citizens, and Canadian permanent residents).

Nice-to-Haves (Bonus Points)

- Prior professional experience on high-end episodic series, feature animation, or similarly demanding visual productions.
- Experience working in stylized 2D, 2.5D, CG-character, hybrid animation, or digital matte painting pipelines.
- Familiarity with 3D production references or 3D software applications such as Autodesk Maya or Blender.
- Matte painting, surface texturing, or paintover experience.
- Traditional drawing or painting foundational skills.
- Familiarity with tracking tools like Flow Production Tracking (ShotGrid) or similar production tracking platforms.
