The Underwriter, Commercial Insurance plays a key role in supporting the growth and profitability of Navacord’s in-house Commercial Lines programs. This role is responsible for evaluating diverse commercial risks, applying technical underwriting expertise, and supporting Commercial Lines Risk Advisors with efficient, high-quality underwriting service. The successful candidate will bring strong knowledge of Commercial Lines rating practices, a thorough approach to risk assessment, and a collaborative mindset focused on delivering exceptional client service and continuous improvement. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to underwriting operations and help shape the future of Navacord’s Commercial Insurance offerings.

This is a hybrid role with the flexibility to work in-office or in-branch based on the needs of the role and/or as required by management.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Underwriting & Risk Evaluation

- Apply expert knowledge of underwriting principles to assess a broad range of commercial insurance risks and determine eligibility within Navacord’s in-house programs.
- Review applications, evaluate coverage needs, and determine terms, rates, and endorsements in alignment with program guidelines and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure accurate application of program-specific rating structures, forms, and documentation.
- Track and manage aggregate Commercial Lines exposures across multiple contracts and portfolios.

Process Improvement & Operational Excellence

- Collaborate with the Commercial Lines underwriting team to refine underwriting strategies and streamline processes for improved efficiency and performance.
- Identify trends and share insights to help shape future underwriting practices and support program development.
- Contribute to special projects and department-wide initiatives that support growth, innovation, and operational excellence.

Producer & Client Support

- Build and sustain trusted working relationships with Commercial Lines Producers by delivering prompt, thoughtful,



and solution-oriented underwriting support.
- Work closely with producers to understand their clients’ needs and tailor coverage solutions accordingly.
- Provide technical guidance to producers, ensuring clarity in coverage structures, rating, and program requirements.

Knowledge Management & Compliance

- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Commercial Lines rating systems, product features, and industry best practices.
- Monitor regulatory changes and emerging risk trends to ensure underwriting practices remain compliant and forward-thinking.

Additional duties and responsibilities may be added during the course of employment.

Requirements:

- A Level 2 BC Insurance License is an asset.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Commercial Lines Underwriting with robust technical knowledge of rating systems and complex risk structures.
- Experience working with a variety of risk profiles, including intermediate to high complexity commercial accounts.
- Experience in other lines of insurance is considered an asset.
- Strong customer service and relationship-building skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Self-directed, detail-oriented, and able to work both independently and as a collaborative member of the underwriting team.

The salary range for this role is $42,000-$75,000 per year, plus commissions. Compensation is determined by a combination of factors including a candidate’s experience, job-specific knowledge, and skills. Internal equity to ensure fairness across the organization and region/location is also considered.
