About the Role
The Company is in search of a General Counsel to join their team. The successful candidate will be the primary legal advisor, providing strategic and practical guidance on a wide range of legal matters. This key leadership role involves close collaboration with the executive team to ensure that legal strategies align with business objectives and support the company's growth. The General Counsel will be responsible for identifying and mitigating legal risks, as well as overseeing the legal aspects of commercial agreements, mergers, acquisitions, and compliance with regulations.
Applicants for the General Counsel position at the company should hold an LL.B. or J.D. and be a member in good standing with a Canadian law society.
A minimum of 8-12 years' of legal experience, with a robust background in drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements, is required. Experience in maritime or shipping law, energy, natural resources, offshore sectors, government contracting, or environmental law is considered an asset. The role demands a candidate who can act as a trusted advisor, build and scale legal processes, manage external counsel relationships, and oversee the legal budget. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker, adept at problem-solving, and capable of supporting the company's mission of advancing ocean innovation through sustainable practices and cutting-edge technology.
