PE‑Educational Assistant / Assistant‑e en éducation (LTO)

Toronto, Ontario – Toronto campus (306 Lawrence Ave. East, Toronto, Ontario, M4N 1T7)

Position Type: Full Time, Long Term Occasional (1‑year contract with 10‑month classification). Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 am – 4:00 pm (one hour unpaid lunch).

Branch: La p’tite école (Age 2 – Grade 1).

Salary: Hourly rate $31.00 – $34.20, determined by the Toronto French School union grid.

Responsibilities

- Step in as a substitute when regular assistants are absent.
- Assist classrooms and teachers with a variety of tasks.
- Help prepare activities and materials that support lesson plans.
- Participate in outings, field trips, and other school activities.
- Provide in‑class support to students individually or in groups as required.
- Supervise students during snack, lunch, bathroom, nap, and recess; assist with dressing and undressing before and after recess.
- Maintain a tidy, clean, healthy, safe, and secure environment, monitoring allergies and hygiene practices.
- Monitor student behavior and apply positive discipline techniques.
- Replace teachers during meetings and as needed.
- Use appropriate French language, reinforcing language learning and modeling positive behavior.
- Maintain collaborative relationships with all stakeholders.
- Assist in childcare and after‑school care pick‑up/drop‑off as needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Replace administrative staff and complete work‑order tasks as required.

Qualifications

- Excellent French skills (oral and written).
- B2 level in English.
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience working with children (pre‑school, primary, junior levels).
- Valid Health and Vulnerable Sector check.
- Excellent interpersonal skills; respectful and diplomatic communication with students, parents, and staff.
- Strong work ethic and effective time‑management skills.
- Independent and reliable team player, flexible and able to adapt to changing demands.
- Proven conflict resolution and problem‑solving skills.
- Discretion in handling sensitive information.
- Training as an Early Childhood Educator or teacher is an asset. Valid First Aid/CPR certification is an asset. Valid Food Handler’s certification is an asset.
