The Dispatcher is responsible for dispatching units to pick up and deliver freight, monitoring the performance of drivers and ensuring that customer timelines are adhered to. This role focuses on the efficient utilization, management, and performance of our trailer bank—including Refers, Dry Vans, and Long Combination Vehicles—allowing the company to move optimized loads and achieve on‑time service to all customers and terminals.
How You'll Help
- Arrange for daily deliveries, assign pick up requests, and enter orders in the computer
- Set up appointment freight, manifest shipments, coordinate ETA’s with Central, check for expedited shipments and enter missed pick‑ups
- Answer phones and take pick‑up requests
- Coordinate drivers to come back for second round of deliveries, manifest skeleton and make linehaul orders
- Coordinate local P&D; requirements
- Track lumpers hours and review requirements
- Monitor driver performance and report findings to manager
- Identify areas for improvement and efficiencies
- Other related duties as may be required
Your Skills & Experience
Minimum of secondary education, with preference of post‑secondary education (Supply Chain or Logistics Management) or a combination of education and experience.
Geographical knowledge of central Ontario.
Previous experience in the transportation industry.
- Computer skills – accuracy, MS products, TruckMate, web‑based programs
3‑5 years of dispatch experience.
Able to work deadlines in a high transactional workplace.
Exceptional interpersonal and leadership skills to manage demands, resolve issues and build relationships.
- Ability to work independently; a self‑starter.
Ability to work a flexible week schedule.
English required; other languages an asset but not required.
