Software Engineer Co‑op (Gameplay)
The key function of this role is to gain knowledge and experience in building gameplay features and mechanics, and creating tools that support designer and artist workflows. This position works collaboratively with other engineers and teams to maintain code quality and improve content creation pipelines for our game teams.
Contract : 4‑month, September to December, fully on‑site at the Downtown Vancouver studio.
In This Role, You Can Expect To
- Write, test, and maintain code following coding standards and best practices.
- Collaborate effectively with team members, participate in code reviews, and adhere to established development processes.
- Debug and solve software issues, using established standards to provide effective solutions.
- Maintain transparent and concise documentation for code and project‑related materials.
- Continuously learn and improve technical skills and knowledge.
- Communicate progress, challenges, and updates to team members and stakeholders.
- Adhere to project deadlines and milestones, managing tasks efficiently.
- Seek mentorship and knowledge sharing as needed, contributing to team growth.
To Be Successful In This Role, Your Background Includes
- 3rd or 4th year in a post‑secondary Bachelor's program in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent.
- Solid understanding of Java, C#, Node.js or C++.
- Experience working in Unity or similar engines.
- Ability to write clean, simple, well‑documented code from design requirements.
- Ability to manage assigned tasks effectively, working both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic team setting.
- Exposure to Android / iOS mobile application development.
- Up‑to‑date knowledge of the latest mobile gaming trends.
- Ability to effectively communicate with technical and non‑technical team members.
- Experience working in Agile, Kanban, or similar project management methodologies.
Compensation
Hourly rate: $26 – $28 (Vancouver). The pay rate will be determined based on knowledge, skills and competencies, with room to grow after you join.
