Position Summary
The Oncology nurse will be involved in all aspects of the oncology program, including patient/family assessment, teaching and administering chemotherapy, and providing supportive and palliative care. As a member of the interdisciplinary team, the oncology nurse will participate in the development and implementation of patient treatment plans; quality improvement processes and will support education and research initiatives. Contributes to ensuring there is a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors
Position Requirements
- Current Certificate of Competence with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Completion of Oncology Foundations Course from the deSouza Institute preferred but enrollment acceptable
- Completion of Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Oncology Course from deSouza Institute preferred or willing to obtain within 1 year
- Demonstrated proficiency in IV initiation and Venous Access Device management mandatory
- Canadian Nurses Association certification as a Certified Oncology Nurse (CONC) preferred; however consideration will be given to candidates who are willing to obtain
- Minimum of 1 year recent experience in oncology nursing
- Demonstrated experience in working within a multi-disciplinary team
- Working with a variety of computer systems and software applications
- Participation in education and clinical training programs
- Principles of oncology and adult learning
- Therapeutic communication techniques
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills as well as the ability to work independently
- Knowledge in patient-focused care and the needs of the oncology patient population
