The Indigenous Justice Centre aims to provide world-class legal services to Indigenous clients navigating the criminal justice system. As a Staff Lawyer, you will play an significant role in representing individuals facing charges and ensuring access to necessary support services. You'll advocate for culturally protected practices and collaborate with various stakeholders to achieve just outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide legal counsel for criminal and child welfare proceedings • Advocate for Indigenous alternatives in legal processes • Collaborate with community resource workers for comprehensive client care • Maintain effective communication with service providers and clients • Handle documentation and statistical reporting efficiently
Requirements: • Active membership in a Canadian Law Society, preferably BC • 5+ years in criminal law and litigation • Knowledgeable of Indigenous cultural contexts • Robust problem-solving and relationship-building skills • Valid Driver’s License and ability to travel for client meetings
