Role
Senior Software Developer, Subsurface Information Management. Responsible for designing, developing, releasing high‑performance platform services and APIs that enable advanced analytics, data science, business intelligence, and AI workflows for geoscience data. The role includes leadership in software architecture, cross‑functional collaboration, project management, and mentoring.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Software Design
- Design and architect complex software applications, components, and web services.
- Use modelling techniques consistent with design standards, patterns, and methodologies.
- Communicate design views and address stakeholder concerns.
- Recommend design alternatives and trade‑offs.
- Prototype and model software behaviours for stakeholder approval.
- Review and refine own designs and lead reviews of others’ designs.
- Improve processes, products, and programs by integrating emerging technologies.
- Software Development
- Code, verify, test, document, and refactor complex programs and integration services.
- Develop and support internal and external web APIs for secure, scalable access to geoscience data.
- Optimize data models for transactional and analytical workloads.
- Advocate for selection of development methods, tools, and techniques.
- Ensure team adherence to agreed standards and tools.
- Measure and monitor application of standards, including security.
- Participate in reviews of own work and lead reviews of colleagues’ work.
- Release Management
- Plan and schedule releases aligned with business requirements.
- Coordinate release activities across teams and stakeholders.
- Maintain CI/CD pipelines and observability tools to automate deployments.
- Ensure releases meet quality, security, and compliance standards.
- Communicate release plans and outcomes to stakeholders.
- Lead post‑release reviews and identify improvements.
- Project Management
- Define, document, and execute small projects or sub‑projects.
- Work independently or with a small team through all project phases.
- Apply appropriate project management methods and tools.
- Identify, assess, and manage risks.
- Prepare realistic project plans and ensure stakeholder involvement.
- Track activities against the schedule and monitor costs, quality, and resources.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or equivalent.
- 7+ years in software development roles.
- Experience with enterprise‑scale data solutions (high volume, high concurrency).
- Experience with relational and NoSQL data stores.
- Strong proficiency in SQL, Python, and JSON.
- Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP).
- Familiarity with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), CI/CD, and infrastructure‑as‑code.
- Experience with streaming technologies (Kafka, Event Hub) and API integrations.
- Ability to work autonomously, influence stakeholders, and drive collaboration.
- Proficient in resolving complex technical or professional tasks.
- Solid communication skills and commitment to security, privacy, and ethics.
- Deep industry and domain knowledge with rapid learning ability.
Working Conditions
The role is hybrid, requiring presence in the Toronto office twice a week. Flexibility in working hours may be required to accommodate multiple time zones. Tier 3 after‑hours support may be required on occasion.
