This permanent full‑time position in Medicine Hat, AB works with a team of professionals to support children and youth in a community group home. Using the Teaching Family Model, the Child and Youth Worker will facilitate success for children and youth by assisting with daily activities and routines, maintaining a structured setting, fostering skill development, managing crises, ensuring high levels of supervision for safety, and assisting with schoolwork and household duties.

Non‑negotiable compliance requirements (prior to offer):

- Clean 3‑Year Driver’s Abstract
- Proof of $2M Liability Auto Insurance Coverage
- Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search (within last 6 months)
- Intervention Record Check (within last 6 months)

Responsibilities:

- Assist with daily activities, routines, visits and appointments
- Implement skill‑development strategies, manage crises and assist with school challenges
- Promote interconnectedness, including family kinship, academics, recreation and community inclusion
- Support children and youth in enhancing mental, physical, emotional and spiritual well‑being, and increasing belonging
- Complete household tasks such as cooking, cleaning and other duties as required
- Transport youth to and from school, appointments, or visits
- Adhere to workplace protocols regarding animals in group homes,



including reporting allergy risks or concerns

Qualifications:

- A diploma or degree in a related field is preferred; experience with vulnerable children and families is an asset
- Experience in Community Group Care or other “in‑care” programs (preferred)
- Experience providing trauma‑informed, family‑sensitive and culturally responsive care
- Willing to work an unstructured work week consisting of 12‑hour shifts, including evenings, weekends and holidays
- A valid Alberta Driver’s License, reliable vehicle, current insurance and willingness to provide a Driver’s Abstract at hire
- A Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search and an Intervention Record Check completed prior to commencement
- Ability to manage crisis situations therapeutically and intervene physically when necessary to reduce harm risk
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills and ability to relate to people of all ages
- Detail‑oriented, organized and able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
- Eager to learn and embody Closer to Home and the Teaching Family Model philosophy
- Compassionate individual with a positive, empathetic and relational approach
- Can work full‑time in Canada without sponsorship

The pay range for this role is: $23.15 per hour.
