DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Maintains the inventory of supplies and course-related equipment as needed for the laboratory/field facility.
Maintains laboratory/field work facilities by organizing, cleaning, maintaining quality of samples, and monitoring equipment use and maintenance.
Operates standard laboratory/field equipment and some specialized equipment.
Performs various clerical duties including reception duties, faxing, photocopying, report processing/filing, distributing results, booking appointments, recording attendance and data entry.
Compiles statistical reports for month/year end reporting.
Schedules use of Laboratory facility for teaching/learning.
Organizing laboratory set up and take down in consultation with teaching Faculty.
Works with Faculty to identify optimal use of Laboratory/Field equipment and technology for Laboratory/Field activities.
Trains others in the use of Laboratory/Field equipment and technology.
Maintains a secure workplace in the laboratory.
Participates in Quality Assurance/Quality Control programs as required by accreditation/approval standards and University protocols/policy.
Works with Faculty to oversee work study students.
Adheres to the requirements of the Office of Safety and Emergency Management as specified for each Department. REPORTS TO As designated QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION: Four (4) year undergraduate post secondary degree in relevant discipline or equivalent EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years'' related laboratory or field experience in related discipline SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE OR ABILITIES RELATED TO THE JOB Demonstrated data entry skills Demonstrated knowledge of secure laboratory and field practices Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work independently Knowledge of the methods, materials and techniques used in laboratory/field of the appropriate discipline Knowledge of laboratory/field equipment appropriate to the area of the assignment WORKING CONDITIONS Sitting or standing desk for long periods of time Dust, fumes, volatile chemicals, biological materials, electromagnetic fields, power tools, low energy radiation from equipment on a frequent basis depending on the department Ability to lift weights in excess of 10 kg Travel within BC The salary for the above position is determined by the Collective Agreement with the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 4879, as it presently exists.
